trialing question

Post by blackdirt beagles »

how far is considered ok to send out a cast for a trial? reason i ask is i am thinking of possibly getting a club started in my area and trying to see if we would have enough spots to run. we got 4 spots within 20 miles that could handle 5 casts (maybe 6) total for the day. im sure we could have a lot more spots but it may be 35 miles to a couple. is that too far. in my limited trial record i cant remember going more than about 12 miles for a cast, that is why im asking.

i guess the next question would be, would any of you guys come to Princeton, IL for a trial. im not 100% sure on the registry or format yet, but got a couple "irons in the fire". just seeing if it would work and if anyone would show before any commitments are made.

I've been to a few trials where they have travel up to 45 minutes one away. The only thing that having spots far from where you hold your trial at is that it takes longer to get done. Most people don't mind traveling to spots as long as they have rabbits that they can run. If you have ever been to the World Hunt or any of the Big Five Hunts they normally have spots that are a bit of a drive, but also they have a couple of days to get the hunts done. Hope this helps Chuck Raab.
