blood collection fee (anyone ever pay this?)
Has anyone been charged for a blood collection fee from you vet for drawing blood for a test?
My old vet retired and sold the business to a new vet. I went and got a brucellosis test this week and really felt like I got ripped off.
I got charged $30 for a canine examination (which I was told is really an office call by them,) $42.45 for the brucellosis test, and $10.61 for blood collection. I asked them isn’t blood collection part of the test. They said they now charge every time they draw blood. Sound like a good way to rip people off to me. Total $83.06, I was holding my a$$ when I left. I think I am going to be looking new vet.

All 3 of my vets charge for an "examination" if they haven't seen the dog before UNLESS specifically told not to. A brucellosis test costs $52.50 at the vet I usually go to and takes close to a week to get the results back which is def. not a good turnaround time in my book. There are other vets around that do it in house for $30 and have the results to you that day, but they're just over an hour away, my vet is 10 min.
One thing I've learned is it's ALL relative to where you live.

WOW! That is high. I took a dog a while back to get tested and it was $25 for the in house test (that was the total for the bill). This dog had never been to this vet before and we had only used her one other time for some other dogs. I guess that I will keep using her whenever I have to have tests like that done.

blood
Around here you can not walk through the door and talk to a vet for under $35. That is before they even do anything. God forbid if I have to go to the emergency vet, that one is $120 to walk in the door. (twice in 15 years here)
Thank goodness I have K9 first aid and CPR, I can fix most things myself. But I still get the dogs vet checked once a year.
I give all my own inoculations except Rabies, which law here forbids. I have having to pay $50 per dog, just to get the vet to give a danged rabies shot that I am perfectly capable of giving!!

Man BOB, I feel for you... I have the same problem here in K-Zoo. However, that will be changing soon when I can get back to my vet in MO. He was decent. I could call him and just get the medications I needed without making me bring the dog in. But of course, he had already seen the dog for the same issue before... Anyway, I look forward to seeing him again vs going to the money grubbing (I can't say what I really want to because I may offend someone) vets we have here.
However, on their behalf... They have to go to the same school (for the most part) as regular docs do, yet they don't get paid a 6 figure income when they are finished.................
Fair is fair.
