HARD HITTING
Could someone please tell me what this expression means. I see it used many , many times on the boards i must believe it comes from the field trial folks. Maybe someone could post deffinition of terms for new and old such as A LOT OF FOOT. THANKS How about big nose.I would think that would be german shepherd.

Well my use of the words might mean something different for some but here is what they mean to me.
Hard hittin- From the time they leave the box to the time they are put back in the box, they are in the briars, not standing in the road or paths.Always on the go searching the ruff stuff for rabbits. You know the kind of dog you don't have to make a path for.
Lot of Foot - fast on the track or move a rabbit fast while still under control of the situation
Big nose-Able to run a bad scenting track, you know a dog that can still circle rabbits to the gun in bad conditions usually consider to have a big nose.
Now i do field trial but i also gun hunt regularly and i use these words or phrases, never thought much of it being a fielder trialer terms though.
I prefer to have a dog that has all the abilities above, that's the kinda dog i want to feed.

I think hard hitting is usually viewed as a bad trait. I like the above stated definition though. I would say I like a hard hitting dog one that will hit the brush, run the feet off a rabbit, and out hunt his handler. That is my definition of hard hitting. I think some say hard hitting is wild or crazy tend to be a rougher running dog. I think I have a hard hitting male right now but he runs a pretty good rabbit. I like to think hard hitting means he is out there ready to roll until you are ready to go home.
Lot of foot- to me means fast on the line but still running the line undercontrol. another term that scares people some times when you see a dog for sale with a lot of foot. People tend to think a lot of foot means out of control. over running. I like to find a dog that has a lot of foot but has good line control also.

Bill,
My definition of "Hard Hitting" is an aggressive, hard hunting dog that comes out of a check like he/she is looking at the rabbit on the jump. A dog that drives the rabbit with intent to catch it. A dog that runs the line like he owns it. Not on a Sunday walk smelling a lot of track.
Hey Lynn,
How are you. When is that litter due?

That sums it up nicely.BJK wrote:My definition of "Hard Hitting" is an aggressive, hard hunting dog that comes out of a check like he/she is looking at the rabbit on the jump.
