Finally a voice of reason. Show the dogs you are the dominant male and kick their asses for fighting or shock them if you don't have the will to man handle them. Trust me it works. I won't tolerate any animals fighting.

just came in from feeding and had 2 males fighting for no reason. this is how i handle it. i kicked the crap out of the one who started the fight. u have to show them who the alpha is not let try to decide it. i am the BOSS period and if they dont like they can leave, or take a dirt nap there choice.

I agree with you guys a good whipping or a good scolding will do the trick. I can yell at a couple of my males and they will jump out of there skin in the pen. Also i've chased them with a broom in the pen. I use the broom to sweep up crap into the shovel. If they hear me yell and pick up the broom they run into the dog house and i've never touched them with it (honest).Trust any little thing like this works.

The beatings may work when you are around, however the problem still lies there when you are gone. You ever notice how they will start sneaking stuff to chew up, well it is because the alpha "YOU" are there, but when you aren't there guess what what ever is chewable is chewed up... So Being the "ALPHA" don't always work unless of course you are gonna eat sleep and be in the kennel 24-7.

I would much rather just separate my dogs with another pen or barrier then to have a dog cower everytime I walk into my dog pen.

Even though I try hard never to hit or smack my hounds for any reason ... there is a time...
Hounds and Kids are alot alike... spare the rod and spoil the child.
Kids throwing a temper tantrum in a store or a hound mouthing off in the kennel resembles one another very close. When enough is enough and they figure out who the boss is... usualy a word in the right tone settles them down!

I agree w/ everything TC has said in this post. I have 2 alpha males and they got to each other through my chain link kennels a few months ago. I've tried pretty much everything that's been suggested here, and you know what, the best way is to separate them. If you don't have another kennel, maybe it's time for a tie out stake or to send one down the road. I can GUARANTEE they will fight if a female comes in heat and they're both dominant dogs.

I have had the same problem with two males, I ended up using a big piece of mining belt as a blinder so they cant see each other.

Why do you need chain link or wire between the runs? We used white poly "boards" in our kennel to seperate the runs. Dogs can't see each other - no problems.

My dad had two coon hound that would tear the kennel and each other to pieces through a chain link fence. He tried several things like putting them together and letting them go at it and shocking and beating etc and finally he put a piece of chicken wire between them and after they could'nt touch each other the eventually quit. And make sure you put their food bowl on seperate sides of the kennels this may be a problem.

This has been one of the more entertaining threads to read in a while. I've never had this problem, mainly because I have two females kept in the same run. I just can't imagine how two dogs could do much to each other by trying to fight thru a chain link fence. Sounds entertaining to watch. Must really be frustrating to them not being able to get a good hold of the other. :D

Entertaining, I don't think so. In early Jan. I had a female I was breeding to my FC come in heat and he and the male in the kennel got into it. I was lucky to be at the house then, but by the time I got out there (30 sec.), they each had each others right arm through the chain link. Needless to say, enough damage was done to both that they limped bad for almost a week and a half. I wouldn't call that entertaining!

Its all about "breeding". You have to know a lot about the ancestry you cross into. I never have that problem and I kennel over 20 beagles.

I'm not trying to call anyone a liar, I believe y'all if you say your dogs are eating each other up through a chain link fence. It's just that I can't see how two dogs could get a decent bite on each other through an ~2.5 inch hole found in chain link fencing. That's all I'm saying.

Hell, if it's that much of a freaking problem, punch holes in and hog clamp a piece of tin along the chain link between them.
