A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I just got a phone call that my grandparents Jack Russel was attacked by Coyotes less than 50 yards from their house last night.
They let him out to go to the restroom and heard him yelping a few minutes later. They opened the door to find him with his guts ripped out laying on the porch and two "German Shepard looking dogs" running away.
They was able to find the attack sight by following the blood trail and it was right beside their garage which backs up to a boy scout camp.
My in-laws have noticed alot of coyotes around that area too. I have heard they are making a come back around this part of Ohio. Hope the Jack Russel is doing OK.
Sorry to hear about your parents Jack Russel. More people to need to hunt yotes. I know I am going to start hunting them. I have them behind my house but they aren't brave enough to come near my yard. I shoot guns too often and they know better. My AR-15 or M1A would really ruin their day.
Here at our farm I hear them howling and yipping many nights back in our woods, what an eerie sound! Our dogs are so used to it, they don't even bark anymore. Some of our neighbors actually put on coyote drives through our woods and some surrounding woods, I guess they've killed some the last few years. My husband is planning on hunting them now that deer season is about over. Sorry to hear about your parents' dog, what an awful sight that must have been.

I was rabbit hunting yesterday and jumped a coyote that was bedded down in a thicket. He stopped and looked at me and the dogs for a few seconds, then moved on. I kept a close eye the rest of the day. Keep in mind they are breeding right now and the males have a hard time putting up with any intruders. So, I am breaking out a few calls and the 22-250 to hopefully take out a few. Sorry to hear about your grandparent's dog. "The powers that be" will never realize what kind of a problem coyotes are or will become unless something happens to one of their furry friends or worse yet a child.

The vet said he did fine overnight and the next 24 hours are critical to him living. He has a huge chunk out of his back, stomach area was ripped open, and has several puncture marks all over.
Right now they are giving him a 50-50 chance. Sad part is my grandparents are in their 80's and this is their little companion that gets them through the day....very sad.
sorry to hear about this.I talked to my dad the other night and they had 3 yotes on the north end of their woods the other night.we always throw the bones from deer season out there to try and bait them in and it seems to work. They got one of them and have been hearing more back there. We are thinking about getting some guys together and try to run them a little.I will let you know if we get something set up to try to dust some of them.I got some oo buck that should do the number on them.Brian
