Hare and rabbits do not cross together. Jack rabbits are a hare. They along with European Hare were brought to Long Island, and other areas etc. by some of the packs in the early 1900's. The last probably in the 1930's. By The Windhom Pack on Long Island. The four hares we have in North America are the Snowshoe (Varying Hare), the Desert Jack Rabbit, The White tailed Jack Rabbit and the Black Tailed. The Desert is found in the desert southwestern part of the country (Mainly Arizona) and is the largest. The Black tail is usually found at higher elevations or arid areas but not true desert type terrain and the white tailed accross the Great Plains or open range land. The snowshoe the smallest of the hare look to high elevations in the Mts or the Northern States along the border.

Jackrabbits
I too have ran Jack rabbits in Minnesota. Near the White Bear and Hugo area. Was on a buddy's farm with some young dogs and looking for cottontails along a field edge and ran jacks instead.. They were fast and very hard to shoot..
