Big Thanks from Smokes Creek

Post by Rick G »

I Just had to publicly thank a few guys here. First, Sam Mordino, deerfield, here on the Q&A. On New Years Day, I had asked sam to join me, Carl Mirabella and Tony Seera, of Grand IsLand NY. for a day of cottontail hunting. Sam had brought along with him Nick Schmid, who is an outdoor productions hunting video maker.

Im always a bit nervous around cameras, cause it just seems that is the day that the runs are always the worst ever! Well to my suprise, it turned out to be one of the best hunts Ive been on in a long time. Although the rabbits sat tight, once they were jumped, the runs were full speed and long! We put together a great pack of hounds that ran so nice I never loaded my gun.
All the guys got shooting, and the pack caught two rabbits on bare ground! It was just an amazing day in the field! At the end of a long day, Tony's wife had a table set for us of food and drink! As we ate, the days events were talked about and relived once again. This was a great way to start off the New Year, making a lasting memory of hounds and friendship!

Thank you Nick, for taking the interest in taping our hounds for your video, and thank you to the Seera family for being great host's. Oh ya, and thank you deerfield for your awesome display of shooting. Without your keen eye, those runs could have ended very quickly!..lol
(that will teach you to stay out so late on New Years eve)

This is the reason I feed hounds!

I'd love to see the video, too! Any possibility of that? Congrats on a good start to the New Year.

Thanks Tony you were a gracious host had an awesome time . I've never seen a dog catch 2 rabbits in one day before , Max never ceases to amaze me ( of course maybe if the hunters could shoot , the poor dog wouldn't have to catch them LOL ). What more could you ask for good company, great dogs, huge runs, and a full belly afterwards .

Felonish is the least of my worries. You weren't kidding when you said your New Year's Eve party the night before made them GREEN. Here's what the original photo looked like... (lol) I had to do some serious touching up...

Thanks Rick G for the invite. What a way to start off the New Year full steam ahead. The runs were some great drives with very few checks and out of a canon type checks when they did have them. The noise coming from the red brush was so over whelming I forgot to aim I was smiling to much. I am not sure what sounds I liked more the music of the hounds the noise of them thrashing the red brush or the ball busting comments after each shot. The sound of the rabbit as the dogs caught up to him was much more rewarding than if I would have shot him anyhow. Tony was happy cause he said he could return his magnum shells he had just bought. Tony's quote was Who needs bullets when you've got Max!!!! I could not shoot the last one due to the dogs being 10 feet behind him which only lasted maybe 75 yard before that rabbit also ended up in the mouths of the dogs. Lets do it again!!! I talked to Nick and we will try to get a clip on soon.
