Joy

Post by WayneValentino »

was sold several years ago.. It is no longer made and sold by best feeds of Oakdale, Pa. The mill is almost torn down now... So you are not getting the original Joy formula anymore, just the name...

Joy Dog Food

Post by Jim Stinnett »

I am a dealer for Joy in Northwest Indiana. I also fed Joy years ago. I think the food they are putting out right now is some of the best they have had. I feed my dogs the Joy High-Energy 24/20. I sell it for $15 for a 50 lb bag. I have really good feedback from everyone who trys it.

I also sell the:

Joy Professional Chicken & Rice 26/18 - $20 - 50#
Joy Lamb & Rice 23/14 - $20 - 40#
Joy High-Energy 24/20 - $15 - 50#
Joy Basic 21/9 - $12 - 50#

How much do you feed and average sized beagle jim of the 24/20 im paying 15.99 a bag for it. the place i found had the 22/12 for 13.95 the special meal for 16.59 and the high performance 26/18 for 16.99 trying to find it cheaper or somethingif i bought alot at one time. Ive been a tried and true purina man but my dogs seem to be liking it less and less.

Feed

Post by Jim Stinnett »

I feed most of my dogs 2 cups a day. If I am really pushing a couple I may give those dogs 3 cups. A cup of dry food is an 8oz messuring cup.

Thats a bit excessive for a Beagle, isn't it? I can't say I wouldn't mind the purchase price of the food ;) but in bad conditions, when I'm running them hard 4+ days weekly, the most I ever feed 15" hounds is about 1.5 cups! A 40# bag will normally last me 5 weeks with seven hounds and a 65# mutt. Just food for thought ...

my vet actually rec. joy super meal 26/15. he said it was actually the old 80's formula for hi pro/ not the new hi pro by purina. like liked the fact that it didnt contain any MSG or its hidden names as a source.i guess over 40000 tests dogs have be researched on it? i'm just starting to feed it so time will tell. he also rec.a half can of their canned food with the kibble. he said it will boost the numbers on the food dramatically. this was in part because the protein and fat levels are developed from a dry matter basis/or when the food has no moisture in it.

Beagled1 what kinda food are you feeding that you only feed 1 1/2 cup of food. ive heard this said by alot of guys but ive tried several big brands and ive yet to find one that will keep my hounds in shape on that little of food and at best im only running 2 days a weeks or about 10 or 12hours i feed anywhere between 2 to 3 cups depending on weather and how much there beeing ran. and i don't call any of my dogs fat.

Eukanuba Premuim Performance with the Beagle on the front 30/20. I only keep 3 to 4 beagles so I can afford this high end food and it works great. My dogs are only fed a cup a day, easiest clean-up you will ever see. If the dogs are run really hard 2 cups is fed but you better be running them hard or they will put on weight. The other benefit is the dogs last longer, when I ran Purina most dogs got really thin and gased out quicker. The other thing I noticed is they don't eat any grass anymore like they did on purina and other brands I fed.. I would recomend buying one bag and picking one dog to switch over and keep the rest on their feed and see the results for yourself, give two weeks to let them get fully acclimated to the food and look at their coats, eyes, muscle tone, endurance, and overall attitude but most importantly you will see the stool will be small and dark and you will see that you don't need the same amount of feed. If you feed a full bowl of your brand and a full bowl of Eukanuba Premuim Performance your dogs will put on weight so you will see that you can feed less and get the same results. My feed last longer..When you have gone through an entire bag your dog should show the results. At the half day mark when most dogs are just going through the motions and show signs of wearing down my dogs still have bounce in there step..
