One of my buddies had a dog that was prone to seizsures. He would stiffen up and his eyes would glaze over in a fixed stare. Sometimes he would fall over. Another male killed him in the pen before he had him looked at. We wondered if he was having a fit and the other dog finished him off like a wolf getting rid of weak or sick pack mates. Could be epilepsy. Others may be more qualified to answer this than I am, but you may want to kennel him alone.

have ran into this several times over the years. if you are going to take that dog to the vet for a blood test make sure you run her hard before you go otherwise her sugar levels may appear to be normal when tested. very similar to diabetes in humans. other than that, if you decide to keep her, feed her the night before you go hunting and a little in the morning. also you can give her some type of energy bar dog or human halfway through the day to maintain her levels of gulcose. i have a female that is this way and havent had any problems since. hope that helps....

It sounds like a seizsure, a dog that has them will start at approximatly 2yrs old, they are inherited and the hound that has them should not be bred, he will just pass them on to the pups.
You need to watch him once they start they will come more often, i had a male years ago that had them and i bred him an at approximatly 2ys old all of the offspring had to be distroyed, i got hung up on the same thing, being told by several that they were sugar fits, just don't kid yourself and be sorry down the road.

Mr. Latimer is right. He and I have been in beagles for a long, long time, and we've seen this before. It's epilepsy and it is inherited.

Yep.... I had a male that was so afflicted.... didn't know it until after I had bred him to my best bitch. She had 4, one never nursed and died, 2 females were OK and the male pup had epilepsy. Had his first fit at about 4 months old. I gave them away with the caution not to breed them, should have had both neutered, my bad. It's a scary thing to see in the bad ones.

I had a male that had them to . Theres nothing you can really do the sugar stuff didn't work for him. It's inherited they just keep getting worse and last longer. I did however get him to stop for awhile my vet put him on Valium and it helped to slow them down. Maybe you will be lucky and it's the sugar thing . Good Luck

Our dog with epilepsy is not violent or aggressive when she has seizures. And since we took her out of the kennel and made a house dog out of her we are seeing less seizures. I think it is less stress. My cousin said a bird dog that had seizures and would attack other dogs or people while having them was cured with sugar.

The best option here is to take him to the Vet to determine the cause of the seizures ... could be from hypoglycemia, but theres a chance something else is going on. Personally, I wouldn't take for granted that any seizure was caused by low blood sugar until I had everything else ruled out.
The Vet will likely test thyroid function and do a complete blood panel. Thyroid problems can often cause seizures ... if the bloodwork is normal, you're going to need to watch this dog like a hawk for any more seizure activity. Sometimes, the signs are subtle, easy to miss. Many seizures are "petit mals" and do NOT appear to be seizures, just abnormal behavior ... but they are defintiely seizures.
Could certianly be low blood sugar, but I'd watch this dog carefully, and if it occurs again, please strongy consider neutering this dog.
