Fellas I'm gonna tell you a little about what I do for a living. Some people say I collect trash. Not just any trash; but human trash. I pick it up off the street and bring it in for sorten so it goes to the proper recepticle. After a while you get pretty good at spoting the trash. Trash can't act on it's own but only shows bravery when they feel they are safe. Trash is bravest from long distance because they know they can run away and hide. They really won't say much unless it's long distance at least the other side of the street and even then they have to confer with each other first so they feel safer. They don't want to stick their neck out all alone though even from across the street so they kind of lean on each other for bravery because one without the other is just a small piece of garbage but put them all together and you have a whole heap of dung. The thing about that is the bigger the pile the more it stinks and the easier it is to recognize. There's something about the stink though that affects the trash. It kind of acts like a drug and gives them the giggles. They get to thinking that disrespecten other people with wise cracks and so on is funny. But mind you only when they feel safe. That's another sure sign of trash; they'll do things from a long ways away that they'd never do up close they just don't have the backbone for it.
But enough about what I do fellas. What do you guys do when your not all together.

My opinion
I break my pup's from deer when there young.
With a shock coller.
First I get them used to the coller.
They soon learn I am the only safe place to be if they get hit with the coller.
I have broke alot of dog's this way.
Lately I have gotton into a blood line or at least a few dog's from this blood that won't mess with deer or any trash for that matter.
Why? I don't know.
But even they cant resist checking a trashy dog thats burning a deer up.
So I get my chance to train them that even that isn't acceptable.
I don't have deer runners and I live in michigan and rarely trial.
I just hunt and run.
I hunt alot. This year with my 3 finished dog's myself and some of my friends killed 213 rabbits. From November to March.
I had one deer race that was with a single dog. The others came out of it.
We never go hunting with out at least jumping one deer.
I have broke dog's and I believe it's because of the shock collers, good breading, and alot of training.
I respect every one opinion here and I'm not aiming this post at anybody.
I'm sure there maybe other ways of breaking dog. But this is mine.
I would consider my self an expert. I have been running beagles all my life. I just use what ever tools I find most affective.
I wouldn't own a beagle if I didn't own a coller.
Just thought I would give my 2 cnts.
Keep them running
Rob
P.S.
I enjoy running beagles with new freinds.
So if any body would like to run in a deer infeasted area with me to see
if my methods work. Just let me know.

Joe I am a Mech. in a power house (over20 years) some of the nuts I turn have 4" heads on them, some are as small as 1/4 or smaller, not all nuts are the same!! Not all trash is the same human or otherwise!!
I have been a trash collector I have also riden in the back seat of other trash collectors cars, I've been sorted. Never has a trash collector tried to help me improve my ways!! The Lord and family did and I am not nor have I ever been trash.
I use what I want to train my beagles. And ain't no mad trash collector gonna make me do anything different!!
Joe you need to let go and have some fun.. What do you do for fun?

Robert W Mccoy Jr.: I'm not clear on your breaking the hounds that won't mess with trash until a trashy dog takes a deer. Do you intentianally run your straight hounds with trash runners so that you can break them or does this occur just by chance? Do you givce the young hounds that you are breaking any commands when you shock them to break them from running deer? Do you intentianlly set the youngsters up or do you just wait till by chance they take a deer?

I HAD A BEAGLE ONE TIME THAT THE GUY I BOUGHT HIM FROM SAID HE DIDN'T RUN DEER. HE SAID " I BROKE HIM ". I TOOK THE DOG OUT & HE JUMPED A DEER. I HOLLERED AT HIM" COME BACK HERE ". THE DOG WAS RUNNING FULL SPEED & STOPED IN HIS TRACKS , FLIPPED OVER ON HIS BACK & STARTED PEEING RIGHT UP IN THE AIR. I THINK HE
( MIS) USED A SHOCK COLLAR. BUT THAT DOG WAS BROKE OFF DEER.

Folks this is a good thread. The last post by BunnyBuster is an eye opener!! I think I will try harder not to use my collars!! Joe has fought a good fight, and we have all had a good time. I hope we all have learned something here.
You don't have to use Joes way but there is ways to break a beagle from running deer without useing the collar. Don't get me wrong I ain't getting rid of my collars!! But I will be more carefull how I use them.

Yeah I intentionally set them up.
It's pretty easy up here.
If someone has a dog that hasn't been exposed to deer I put a young dog or two down. With them somewhere I have just seen deer.
If and or when the unexposed dog takes the deer I give the dog's time to harck to him then even if they don't open. I shock them.
Now I only do this on dog's that I know will come back to me if there shocked.
No I don't give them any commands. They just come running back.
I stop shocking them when I see them coming or hear the bells coming my way.
Seems to work pretty good.
Then we go find a rabbit with the dog's that were corrected.
And an older dog that I know is broke.
Then I go find another deer and let the first pack of hounds back out.
I also take any opprotunity I can while hunting to expose all my dog's to deer.
But again I only expose a dog to deer after I know it will come to me after corrected.
Seems to work pretty good for me.
Now as I said I do have a couple that will just not mess with any off game.
So I treat them a little differant.
Hope this clears things up.
And again I'm not bashing or cutting anybody down on there training methods. Do what works best for you.
Just trying to share some of my experiances with others.

Ive been quiet till now but I felt that I needed to tell something about myself. I have read some books on speed reading. In these books it teaches you to quickly skim through words and pick out the big words and the words that mean something. The problem im having is that on certain posts from certain people I have trouble! I guess I need to go back to those books and see what it says about posts that are posted by someone that does alot of talking but yet doesnt say anything or maybe doesnt have a clue........
