Cottontail Blues Rowdy has a high bawl mouth. He uses it every 6 seconds or 60 yds - whichever comes first (lol). A fast dog can bawl on the run - head up about 8 inches off the ground. I love to see that when they pass by.

A Clear Horn and then go to a fast chop. I like a ragged tearing squall also.

I like a mixture of all of them. Each one is dictinct in its own right. Can you imagine a choir with everyone siging bass or everyone in tennor. The good mixture of them all makes the music pleasant.

I like a loud bawl or squall claiming a check, but a nice chop when driving Mr. Bunny.

Geez guys, I agree with Write boy. I would hate for them all to sound the same. I have a big male that lets out a bawl that can be heard all over the woods, or swamp. When his little brother joins in, with a real high squealing chop, then a little female that has almost a whistle, good golly I am getting chills just thinking about it. The sound of music.

My two running females right now have great bawl mouths. I haven't once seen them slow up due to lifting their heads, they just hold it alittle higher off the ground once they get the jump and are moving the rabbit. The one female reminds me of an old coon dog my grandpa used to have. I get chills everytime I hear her let loose.

:D Well I really like a hound with a deep chop mouth and makes it
sound like a machine gun and then keeps it steady while running. But
I like for each pack member to have a different type of mouth that
makes it different from the others. Bawls, chops, squalls and squeals
are all ok with me. It always seems to me that when the squealers
get to the front, the chase is really on. While in the bushes it seems
that when you hear that sudden squeal come out the chase is about
to start.

Several different mouths opening at once is the most beautiful sound there is! That said I like a good squall voice best..... but any dog doing it right sounds good to me.

I was not knocking bawl mouth dogs - not all throw their head back far enough to lose scent or move slow. I have just seen several that did one or the other or both.

My first beagle ever was a 16" speed demon with a machine gun chop mouth! She's been dead a few years now, but on occasion i can still here her in the woods. That bark every breath "chop" still rings my ears. :)

I will admit, I dont know the definition of them all. Not alot of beaglers in our area. But I know with ours they all cry. First time I heard Sage open up, I thought somebody was killing him. He doesnt make that noise for anything but a rabbit. He is also very sneaky and quiet, tightmouthed. When he opens up, you better bring your gun up, cause he is bringing it home. We have all Patch hounds.

Hammerin Patch is just used to hearing my dogs run, but atleast we agree on something. A big bawl declaring the track that turns into a deep woofing chop is certainly music to my ears. I have seen good ones with all kinds of mouths though. Good post, would like to know if anyone breeds for a specific kind of mouth like myself?

I like A good loud bawl and chop mixture used corectly. I have gotten rid of a few dogs over the years thats mouths did not please me . If the dog is good enough you can learn to like most mouths. I have.
