Anyone interested in good gundogs? Name the best
Name the one dog that you would take hunting if your life depended on eating a rabbit and there was one rabbit in a forty acre field. The field has a lot of briars and brush piles for cover.
The one I would take is called Burleigh's Dan. He is mostly Gay Bred but his bitch line goes back to Pearson Creek. Dan has the desire to root out a rabbit in the thickest briars. Once up he is relentless and never seems to give up on a check.
What is yours? Give the name of the dog and breeding if you know it and tell why you think he is the best.

My Briar Bashn Buster dog He can HAMMER DOWN! I can kill as many rabbits with him as I could with a pack he is a true rabbit dog just like his daddy I have spent hours and hours watching and listening to Buster solo rabbits and He's the type of dog you want in your pack when hunting season rolls around.

Fld. Wnr. Willow Run Nemoe...
we trialed him in 95 deg heat, dryest conditions of the summer and he could still find the rabbit when the rest of the winners pack couldnt....
Zero deg temps in the winter, 3 ft of snow.....at a snow trial with hare hounds..he could pick them to death at the checks....
he could run a rabbit on top of the snow and UNDER IT!!!! You ever hear a dog running a rabbit under the snow???
I sure miss that ole dawg!!!

It would have to be my ole Tuff dog (FC Briarpatch Black Boone x Hunger Mt Ruby). I have several dogs and he never stays at home in hunting season, wether it is cottontail or hare. Lots of hunt and a great big nose. He also has a big mouth to go along with the nose, but I tolerate it. He also retrieves!

JAson
Them are some nice hounds mentioned Jasons Buster dog and Matts Pepper.
But there is an old dog named Merle that Paz in Iowa owned for years and now He is Southern Indiana at BMans.
Old Merle may not be flashy or over talented but you know that old dog will find the meat and bring it to the gun day in and day out.
Here in our Kennel it is our Molly dog she can flat rock and roll.

i would have to say my dan dog or my female rosey this early summer they were nipping right at a few rabbit tails while running them and seen them track a rabbit acrossed a 6 foot wide creek there dependable dogs and they produce good pups!! One of the pups i got out of them will already scent trail a rabbit after two training sessions i love it !
Thanks DaMans (Joe) for your kind words about Merle. He's a pretty tough old hound for sure. I think Paz summed it up best when he called him "ole Budweiser" ..may not be the best beer, may not be your favorite beer, but it's the same beer everytime you open it. He is real consistant and reliable and you can bet the bank he's gonna jump you a rabbit. Look forward to many more hunts with you am honored you think so highly of Taylor's Merle..
