Is it Mange
Does any one on this board have any experiance with a puppy that has had MANGE. I believe that a puppy out of my litter has mange. She has been losing hair on the top of her head slowly. She scratches, I have looked closely into her coat and do not notice anything. Do you think it is mange and what is the best treatment for it. I would like to do this myself if possible. I have read about some dips but do not know much about it. Here is product I have found but do not know if it will work. http://www.revivalanimal.com/product.asp?pn=35%2D720
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

Jason, does the dawn have to be green. I have heard of using dawn before but nothing was ever said about the color ?
Expecting a carjacker or rapist or drug pusher to care that his possession or use of a gun is unlawful is like expecting a terrorist to care that his car bomb is taking up two parking spaces

OK IF IT IS TRULY MANGE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE PARASITE WITH YOUR EYES YOU WILL NEED TO SKIN SCRAPE AND USE A MICROSCOPE. THE BEST AND MOST EFFECTIVE DIP FOR MANGE IS MITA-BAN DIP FROM YOUR VET. THEY WILL USUALLY GET IT IN THE CREASES ON THERE HEAD OR FACE FIRST.
DAWN DISH DETERGENT WILL NOT CURE MANGE. IT MAY TEMPORARILY SOOTH A LITTLE BUT WILL NOT FIX.

I've always been told Green.....
As for it not curing mange... I had a litter 2 summers ago that 4 pups got it.. Talked to the vet and thats exactly what he told me to use.. I gave them there bath like he said and hair grew back. After 2nd bath never had it again. I forget what kinda mange it is but he called it puppie cooties lol... Said it's where the mama isn't cleaning up after them as much when they get older... 4wks or so... Good luck and try it.... it worked for me..

Why don't you just take the pup to the VET!
Using motor oil, ivermectin, etc, etc may work in some cases with people that are experienced using it (I would never use motor oil, but that's just ME), but unless you take these pup(s) to the vet, your not going to know if it's mange or "puppy cooties"
You didn't mention the age of this pup. Sometimes very young pups lose a bit of hair due to dry skin (which itches) or when weaning due to change in the digestive tract and nutrient absorbtion.
I am not saying this is NOT mange, but I believe that you would be seeing it in your other dogs as well (especially the dam).

Well I took them to the vet, she did a skin scrap and said that she did not see mange mites. She gave me some topical revolution that you apply between their shoulder blades and it is absorbed into there body. She got me a medicated shampoo that I must bath them in twice weekly. She then trimmed some hair and is doing a ringworm test that will tell her in about 8-10 days if it turns pink they have ringworm. Go figure I took them to the vet and the vet coundn't even tell me what they have. It was a waste of my time and money. I wanted to know what caused the hair loss.
No they are tri color. It first started on her head now her head is just fine all the hair grew back. It has spread to the sides of her stomach and a few spots on her back. I have another female from the same litter that is starting to have the same symptoms. She is loosing hair on the back of her neck but not bad as the other female.
