HEADS UP ( need some info )

Post by steve »

Back in the late 70's early 80's seems to me there was a pamphlet type beagle or hound booklet that I think originated in Michigan,It only came out 6 times a year and had hunting stories in it,seems it didn't last long either if anyone knows what I'm talking about or better yet has a copy of it laying around I'ld like to take a look at it to refresh my memory.I believe it was called something like Northern hare hunting ( maybe ) or on that line. Thanks Steve

You may be thinking of a magazine called "Large Pack". It was started in the 70's by Pearl Baker in conjunction with the SPO movement. In those days Hounds and Hunting was about the only beagle publication and it was all about promoting the peanut rolling Brace Trial Beagles.

Pearl Baker, after the magazine started to gain success, changed the name to "Better Beagling".

No this was a paper back type small book.Full sheet of paper folded in half and it didn't have very many pages and was geared towards hunting no field trials stuff that I can recall also had classified ads and guys advertised grade dogs for sale alot and even cross bred beagle/bluetick for deeper snow, had advertising in it but no trial stuff.I don't think this was around long but might have something to do with the hare guys in Michigan.
