She may be gone for good.....
I have a little gyp that can climb about any fence you put infront of her...I usually keep her tied down IN the kennel so she doesn't climb out. But the other day I put a tarp over the kennel and put some wire over the part that wasn't covered by the tarp and thought she couldn't get out....I watched her for a few days and she never even attempted to get out. Well I came home the day before yesterday and she was gone. When she has gotten out in the past you can hear her running rabbits in the evening but not this time....I've yelled and drove everywhere trying to find her but NOTHING....The only thing I can figure is she has been picked up or gotten killed somehow while wondering around the woods.....So I THINK I have decided to sell off some of my other dogs and just keep a few for awhile and see how that goes....I have way too much to do already and can't find the time to run 6 dogs, start 2 pups, take care of a family and business, work and try to find dogs when they excape....Just too much for me...Time to cut my loses...(and it's always the good ones that come up missing)

Can't sleep for dogs running Chaffin so got up eat some corn chips and drinking a diet coke. Lord that female out in the pen right now will rattle the earth when she barks. Had a GA State Trooper to come by the past couple of days looking to buy 2 or 3 dogs. He refers back to when, "dad and I had the dogs years ago before dad died." He also brings up his son and him running dogs some now and in the future. The female and one of the 2 males in the pen are 2 of the dogs we offered to sell him and expect him back. He will have himself 2 fine dogs if he buys them. Anyway before I ramble on what I am getting at if you have beagles in your blood and really enjoy them don't let a time such as now take it away. Good chance you will see your dog again and a small chance you won't. Been there and done that but keep on keeping on. I sort of have a feeling I will own beagles for the rest of my life because it is in my blood thick. I see um come and go. Seen my favorite male, Jr. perfectly healthyand only 5 yrs. old fall over dead in front of me recently. Called his name a few times, spoke a few words to him, dropped a couple of tears and then buried him. Been there done that and own about 40 now. Hope you see your little female again.

Keep your head up. She'll probably come back in a day or two.

I'm not giving up just because that one dog is gone...Just lack of time and I am going to still keep 2 or 3 and sell the rest....It just irratates me because she was one of the top hounds in my kennel. Yep she has a collar on but it has my old phone number on it, plus everyone around here knows me and my dogs,,(neighbors refer to me as the beagleman). There could have been a number of things happen to her, who knows....I may see her again, I may not. Not really worried about it, it just changes all the plans I had for my hounds as far as running order and breeding....But if I do catch somebody running her god help em...Sad thing is if somebody took her all they had to do was knock on my door and I would have probaly give them a descent hound.....For free..Well what's done is done and now just have to change things around a little....

Gus, I'll make you a deal. If she comes back....You come up and I'll write a $5,000 check. You can set her on any off game you want (your choice) and if she runs it I will personally take you to the bank so you can cash it. That is how confident I am Dottie won't run off game...Who knows she could be back in a few days...

WHEN YOUR COOL THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES
Chaffin,
Keep your head up buddy! When Suzy got killed I felt about the same way, but when people called and e-mailed me from all across the state and from other states it lifted my spirits and showed me there are some great beaglers out there. A little more than a week ago I had a litter of pups about 2 weeks old. I came home one evening and found one almost dead. Took it to the vet and he said it had head truama. Not from the mother stepping on her either. So I chose to feed it with a syringe for a few days to see if it would survive. Three days later I am at a friends house watching a Nascar care race and I return home late a night I hear a brood female barking. I go to my kennels to see what is wrong. The door to the whelping pen is open the female with the pups is gone. I search for 3 hours untils 3 A.M. and do not find her. I do not even own this female I leased her to raise this litter. I was devestated. I had to feed the pups that night with a bottle. The next morning I started looking for the female and decided maybe after all this it was time for me to give it up trialing and just keep a couple of dogs to hunt. When out of the blue 1/2 mile from the house I called her name and here she came out of a field. In a second I was back in business. So no matter how bad you feel hang in ther buddy. In a heartbeat your luck can change just like that! You might need to make a change in your kennel with her if you find her to make life a little easier. But everything runs in cycles. Oh yea, 3 days after she got out a storm came through and blew a tree down on the kennel the female and the pups where in. It destroyed the kennel. At this point all I could do is laugh! The little pup is recovering I hope to get her nursing back on her mom today.

Im not going to hang up trialing and running dogs, just need to cut back a few because I have too much going on. I have to work anywhere from 55-70 hours a week, take care of a 6 yr old and a 7 week old, do things around the house and run a business....That's alot to do and run 8 dogs a week. Thanks alot guys for the kind words, Tell Jake that if she comes back I will definately call him and square him away with her......
