Fleas and Ticks?

Post by Ky Scott »

Okay guys what do you think is the best choice is for keeping you're dogs flea and tick free and also safe. Dip, Drops on the neck, Spray, or collars. Have any of you guys tried the spot on by Happy Jack?

Sevin-5 Dust works great for ticks. I've heard that the Sevin-10 works better for fleas. It's very safe and easy to apply.

My doghouses have wooden floors. I sprinkle Sevin in them about every 2 weeks, never see a flea or tick.

The best way to control fleas and ticks on your dog is to use a spot-on product. Frontline Plus is a good product, but there are others out there that work just as good. But they all are on the expensive side.

I have had decent luck with the cow ear tags cut and tied onto the collar of the dog. I also feed a quality food, which boosts the immune system and prevents fleas from infesting on my dogs. I keep my kennels clean and free from excess moisture and debrie that can be a favorable environment for fleas and ticks to live. My dogs don't have a problem with fleas or ticks, but I do wish I could find a way to keep those biting flys off my dogs. They are relentless and make the dogs miserable. I am currently using Avon's Skin-So-Soft and it works well, but I have to reapply it often and it can tend to make the coat a little on the oily side after several applications. Man, I would love to have an indoor/outdoor kennel!

I put garlic, water and cooking oil in the blender and use a paint brush to apply it to my dogs. What is left over I paint the inside lid of their dog houses. No fleas, flies or ticks. When applying to dogs start at the base of the tail and work to the ears.

I use the frontline but I buy the large size dog which will do about 4 beagles .The sizes usually cost the same that way you do 4 beagles for the cost of one. I you use a syringe with the ccs marked on it it is very easy to do.

I order the cow ear tags from Jeffers.Cut 2 places in them and slide them on the dogs collar. The tags have 10% Permethrin and control both the fleas and the ticks.$20 to treat up to 24 dogs. They last up to 5 months. This is my 2nd season using them and have not seen any signs of anything.I used to use spot-on but with the tags you just put them on and your good to go.

Try Bio-Spot. Been using it for over six or seven years and it has proven itself on my hounds - no ticks, no fleas PERIOD! And it costs a lot less than any of your other Spot-On treatments.

Beagler282,
I know what kind of cattle tags your talking about and how you thread them on. Do you put the tag on the underside of the coller or on top?

I like for most of the tag to be touching the skin.Either way will work but that's my preference.I run my dogs in the summer and putting them on this way helps to keep the briars from catching hold of the tags.
