 Yellowdog, he was good when he was young, but got great with age. this little hound had it all. And his offspring is doing well here on the rock with wins and tons of places. :) Just check the result on Beagles canada in the NEWFOUNDLAND Region.

If you have northern bloodlines more than likely it leads back to Pete. One of the most prominent reproducers from pedigree researches. Just about everydog mentioned goes back to Pete.

johny from my research the strong Spur bred hounds are the tightest line bred Pete dogs around. (At least in 9 generations). I own one know that is almost the equivilent of being a grandpup directly out of him when you break the percentages down. Unbelievable considering Pete has been dead for over 40 yrs.

Id pay the 10K sight unseen....LOL

most of you picked big named stud dogs of the past and id say most of you have never even seen the dog you picked. how can anyone say they would pay $10,OOO for a dog they never seen. you see these dogs in books and in pedigrees so they're worth $10,000 to you.

$10,000 dog

Post by johny »

LJ read my post again if you don't understand. I have owned dogs sired by Spur and dogs off of Spur. Best dogs I have owned by far. Would you spend 10,000 on one good dog or on a good dog that produces good dogs. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I would hardly call Spur a big name stud dog here in the midwest. When I got mine directly from Paul Komorny in the early 90's, no one that I new had any around here. I had tried several other bloodlines that were no where near the rabbit dogs that I had gotten from Paul. I never seen him run and I don't care, he produced dogs that could run and produce themselves.

Gots m'self a couple o' buddies north of the St. Larry, (one is way north on the Rock) who have both personally handled and hunted Trimmer. They've given me plenty of first-hand accounts of the dog these two, one named Kane and one named Murphy. Aye, Irish gents they are - and tighter'n a gnat's ass stretched over a fence post. If these two would give anything to have the dog back, that's good enough for this Irish Lass.

johny do you think that because spur produced good dogs that he's worth $10,000? how do you know that he would fit your style of running or fit your pack if you never ran with him. to me spur was a big name dog and you still hear his name today. BEV i said most of the people that picked a dog not all of them.

I am still singing the same song...... I would take Powell's Turbo Dreamboat. I watched this dog run not so long ago as many others did. He won his share of trials and titles. I also have seen what he produces and own 2 of them. My buddy Jesse bred his female to him and one young pup got hit by a car one other was taken as a house pet/never hunted, then 4 of them have at least one title and 1 last one that only needs 15 points to have her champion title in arha but no longer trials in that format. All hunted are definite RABBITDOGS. cya, Hunter ... aka Paul Greenwood

LJ, you are not understanding again. The original question was, if you were to spend $10,000 on a dog, what dog would it be? You know my answer and you should know my reason if you read my post. He produced good dogs out of several different bitches. If Spur is a "big name dog" it is because he deserves it according to his trial record and reproducing ability. I would never spend $10,000 on a darn beagle, and if I did, Spur would be the one that would be worth the investment.
