I know of several show dogs that have sold for more than $10,000 overseas.... as for any field dogs and I had the money.... I sure would take my time and look at several, I am sure there are a few out there.
Bev, He was born a newf and owned by 2 newf's. And back in the early 80's they were offered more money than 10,000 for him.
Oh ya Bev, the results and pics from United Counties back in Feb. Did you ever post them in the mag, if so how about a copy you sweet young thing you. I'll have to give ya another big Newfie hug when I see you again. Terry Toot,toot......
Northway Spur. I would like to see his producing numbers next to any stud. We are talking percentages not number of field champions produced. He wasn't bred to nearly enough. Great question, could cause alot of debate.
boss hog mentioned mark IV ace in the hole. I heard a rumor that don turnd that much down for him. question for all who picked a dog. have any of you ran with or gunhunted with the dog you picked?
It's funny everyone's response so far as been males. I imagine because they figure they could make their money back in stud fees. The complicated thing is whose to say the females they would be bred to today is of better if not equal quality as those they were bred to of yester-years.
You guys can have your famous stud dogs. I'd give $10,000 just to have the little bluetick female, Angel, buried in my back yard back. She wasn't a trial dog, she was just a simple RABBIT HOUND! God gives everyone that once in a lifetime dog. Treasure them while they're with you, because within a blink of an eye they can be gone.

I could care less about getting my money back! I have owned dogs out of spur and his offspring, along with to many other strains. Without a doubt this line has produced the best dogs for me. They have falts and not every one is great, but consistently produce what they are. I hated to see Paul water his line down with some with Branko blood. Nothing against Branko and his kennel, his dogs don't have the same consistent characteristics that I look for in my dogs. If you look through old better beagling books for top producers, Spur( in his time) was always at or near the top of the list. This is with limited breedings. Limited compared to dogs such as Branko's and Mr. T and so on. I am not saying he is the all time best, just darn good. A lot of field champions out of different bitches with those offspring producing too. I would love to see someone do the math and post the results if it were possible. I could be wrong but I have a hunch that I am not. Mason'sbeagles could have hit the jackpot with Mt. Zion Pete. Spur is heavy Pete on top and bottom. Good luck with what ever.
either fc harecharmer ringo in his prime or ifc brankos heli prop...first choice would be ringo tho...i have NEVER heard anybody say anything bad about him and i have talked to quite a few...liquidcooled did you see him run?...would like to hear your opinion on him too since you are a newfie...newfoundland has produced some hugh power over the years...keep up the good work boys

Sounds to me like everyone is taking the easy way out by chosing dogs long gone. Everyone can pick a famous dog from the past. BUT, the trick is looking at a young hound and knowing if he can be the next great one.
Based on hounds I have seen lately, I like John Davis's Ace dog a lot. I would probably also make my buddy, Earl an offer so he had to sell me Albert. Then I would go down and see Lynn Perkins and buy a good female from the hills of KY.
