I can imagine wrongside would try to play ping pong with a basketball because it bounces higher and will not break if you step on it. Wrongside how big are the ping pong baddles in your game? ;)

First: AKC Beagle Standard states
Varieties
There shall be two varieties:
Thirteen Inch--which shall be for hounds not exceeding 13 inches in height.
Fifteen Inch--which shall be for hounds over 13 but not exceeding 15 inches in height.

Disqualification
Any hound measuring more than 15 inches shall be disqualified.
That is if it is competing in any AKC sanctioned function. That does not meant that if the pup you registered at 8 or 10 weeks gets too big they are going to come take your registration away. It simply means you may NOT compete in their events. They don't regulate beyond that. They are not going to run around the country and measure the millions of dogs we own here of many differant breeds and say "whoops, too big, you cant be registered."

Second: If you want to own or even breed bigger dogs, as many Lab people do for better hunting dogs, fine. You just have to keep them in the field. I have a chocolate Lab who's father is international Field Trialing champion and his grandfather is in the Labrador Museum of Foundation Sires. Great bloodlines, but by the time he was 7 months old he topped the Lab Standard. Can I show him, no. Can I trial him, no. But would I breed him to a compatable equivilant female, yes. But he is 6 now and I have only ever approved one female. I wont breed him down. As I stated before I also have 3 Patch beagles that are 16". Awesome hunters. Trial or show, nope. Fill the freezer, yes. Breed them, again, yes.

Well stated. I agree 100%.

Wrongside:

You talk tough. How are you face-to-face? I have a feeling that you are under 6 feet tall. About 5'8"?
Hondo, easy....dont get yourself in an uproar. Your sinking to low levels........just because someone dont agree with you and your trophy chasers rulebook. I still think if a 15" dog gets beat by a 15 1/2" dog, obviously the 15" dog dont deserve to be a Champion, period. Nothing to do with a rule book but everything to do with kennel blindness.

I never said its ok to break the rules, but I did say anyone who whines about a dog not being able to become a Champion because of the "big dogs" that keep beating it........needs to get a new gripe!

You wanna know how I am face to face, ask about half the people in here that know me..............then come and test the water ;)

Best to you,
Randy

i have a good friend who runs fox hounds, and they are started in a small patch on rabbits. there is no way a beagle can keep up with a running walker in the open woods or a grass patch. don't cry when a big dog out runs you. next time out take him to a ditch loaded with honeysuckle and snake grass he'll wish he had a good 13" dog! 15" is plenty big for a beagle, but i'll shoot a rabbit in front of anything!

Over 15" is a DISQUALIFICATION, not a fault. If the dog will not stand to be measured it should not be allowed to compete. If the dog measures over 15 it should be disqualified. Registries that are allowing disqualified dogs to compete are doing harm to the breed and it would be hard to support that. Take your buisness elsewhere if you can not change a tradition that will harm the breed as a whole. Dan M

it does no harm to breed a big dog.there is no harm in running rabbits with big dogs. there is no harm in killing rabbits off of big dogs.you all can argue this topic about big dogs. its 1:30 am ive drank 15 budlights and i still understand the f n rules that a dog that stands over 15"( this " means inches for you retarded people) cant run in a trial. its the freaking rules people. get over it. there are alot of nice hounds over 15" that doesnt mean theyre not rabbit dogs it just means that be trialed. enuff said give it a rest. not bad for a drunk

Sad thing is, this is probably a young idiot that has never tasted beer.

You actually had a good post until you blabbered about your drinking.

I run Patch dogs. They are 14 to full 15 dogs. I just started field trials last year. I did have a dog that measured 15.5 could not trail him. So what my goal is to breed rabbit running machines. I run with my buddies they trial and hunt and also have some of the best dogs I've seen too. we dont complain about the size of the dogs there are some fast 13in dogs that have no problem keeping up. Like I said in an earler post we run swampers that will carry a dog out of hearing. It seems to me that this past was started because someone's dogs got beat and now they want to cry like a baby. My dog suit me for our hunting area when they bark cock the gun. And you if you want to bring a walker down and run or beagle I have a place to hunt. Down here we run in swamps and pine woods.
PS I feed a high quaility 30/20 and that is another reason hounds get a little larger.

this sure is a wild topic, that if you really look at shouldn't even be of
discussion. the response's that you read on the subject it is quit evident
that there are a lot of folks that raise, run and promote oversized dog's.
i don't think anyone is saying that you can't have'em just don't field trial
in the format's that have a fifteen inch maxium height.
if there's that big of interest to trialing oversize hounds you should start
an organization that has no height requirements. i say this because if
you set a height then someone will allways be pushing the limit. i've always thought that anything over fifteen inches was'nt even called a
beagle and were called july's. i myself don't promote a oversized hound
because i wouldn't have a hound that i can't trial in a nkc/arha format.
to each his own but a rule set is a rule that must be enforced.
let honesty run through the veins of each and every judge at each and every trial at each and
every format.

Harm the breed!!!... ... a fraction of an inch will do far less harm to the breed, as you put it, than all this show blood that's being pumped into the veins of a hunting beagle these days...
No hunt is also a DISQUALIFICATION in the beagle standard, along with the lack of many other qualities, that are never tested for in the breeding of nonhunting beagles.
Mr. Paget said long ago, "there should be a distinction within the registry set between the type beagles, of today." Hunting, trial and show must not be confused with one another when selecting breeding stock, for each is, to the degree specialized to their own task.
Even Mr. Dornin said, "Had he know about the Large Pack on Hare folks, his choices would have been different as where to gain proper structure, with the least risk of sacrificing good hunting qualities.
So, should we tell those who are not breeding to complete hounds(those who most completely fit the "total" of the standard) to take their goods elsewhere, it would seem so... ...but wouldn't that go against the fashion of the day.
Again, I have no problem to obey the law. If the sign says 55mph, then you should'nt do 60. But, if one is drunk and staying at or under 55mph, while at the same time all over the road, is that any better or would it be worse... ;)...the cop may well let the one 5mph over, pass by, but the other??? Which has the greater possibility of doing the most "harm"?
