Dont know about cold trailing but i have seen some of the Turbo dogs pop off with mouth before jumping the rabbit, also seen some from Turbo i felt was a little on the tight side.I feel the bitch he was bred to,controled the loose or tight mouth my opinion
Yet to see any from T-rex pop or cold trail but ive not seen all that many either from him.

CRABTREE: he needs an answer from you not BTT

Bob and I talked at the trial at Norton. I think it probably came from the Turbo side, but I really dont know for sure. All my Rex Pups are clean but 1, and she is doing a lot better. I would say the mouth she gives extra came from too much starting pen, not either side of the Ped, because she is so much better now.

Ive had 3 out of Turbo and all of them gave a little extra mouth before the rabbit was up but all most allways produced old bunny. The best one was out of Turbo and FC Box's Samantha which I sold to a guy in New Mexico. I talk with him on a regular basis and he swears she has never gave an extra bark :?: I also have a female that is out of Swings Stone Cold dog and Brewer's Dottie dog which are both out of Turbo(Half brother X Half sister mating) and Ive never heard her give an extra bark  Go figure kinda of Bass Ackwards but I aint complaining. As far as T-rex I could'nt tell ya. Ive heard a lot of good things but never owned one personally.

I like a little cold trail. As long as the dog doesnt get hung up in one spot very long, I like it. Keeps the other hounds in the area and usually results in a jump. Northern Michigan is getting tougher to find good hare populations so a hard hunter that will trail one up is nice to have. Big game hunters will pay big money for a hound that can cold trail a bob cat or bear to the jump.

Do you suppose the AHRA scoring system has anything to do with people not wanting any cold trailing. Minus a dog out?

Hopefully everyone understands that Im not advocating a babbling idiot that barks at every depression in the snow or a track make 3 days ago..
1-2 cold trailers in the pack seems to be plenty.
In my area where hare are scarce you can look for fairly fresh tracks just after daylight crossing the road in the snow. Cut the dogs loose and with a little cold trail, usually jump a rabbit that will run for hour or two. .....

Bob, I have a Turbo female that doesnt cold trail either. Maybe the cold trailing is coming from one of the Bitches.

As far as cold trailing comparing Hare hunting to Cottontail hunting in VA it wont work. All cold trailing does around here is pull the clean dogs out of the briars to go see what the trailer is doing. I saw it at the Norton trial Saturday in more than 1 cast, a dog headed in a big briar patch pulled out by a dog barking in a feeder path.

From what I have seen around here it is harder to get a Cottontail up with a cold trailer in the pack. Cottontails set up in the thickest briars sometimes, and have been there for hours, so you aint gonna trail him up.
