Father daughter crosses
I am thinking about making a father daughter cross.
I know it would lock in the traits etc. I know I will have to do some culling.
But what I would like to hear is what kind of success people have had with this?
I would like to hear from a few that have done this.
I am in the situation right now where I am boxed in. I have exactly what I want in a male. I have a female pup out of him that is doing a nice job and has impressed the heck out of me.

With an expierenced beagler that knows what he is doing I think you could get something of what your looking..... I wouldn't recommend it for people that don't want to cull hard. I have never done it but have heard of some that have worked and have not worked so well.... Good luck
hounds... hare.... hunter.... bang... what gets better than that.

cross
Rob,
Go for it. Keep the whole litter until they start. Weed them out as time goes on.
I have not made this cross yet but have planned to cross a female to her mother's brother.
I have purchesed two dogs in the past that were both bred (father x daughter) Both dogs were not culls, but were no where near the rabbit dog the parents were. However, when bred. They produced better pups than themselves when outcrossed!
There's a good article in the magazine about this. But i hear the author is linebred too.

Robert i have been around some type of breeding program all my life mostly cattle , a dear friend of mine walter sharp first introduced this cross to me , with a certain amount of disbeleive i ventured into this forbidden course with only moderate sucess . I reached back into my bag of tricks and pulled it off , I personally beleive the trick is hit it once , then pull back . take your cross male or female then go to nieces and nephews.
Not only does the best come out but the worst seems to magnify , keep in mind robert i do and have done this for me i have not done it in years but i am thinking about it now. I think it makes things questionable at times , but i will do it again it . I have a daughter of my junie dog that i am thinking about seriously . But this must be done with the right stock - I am presently begging lynn perkins to bred ol buzz back to a daughter.
He is sceptical but i am working on him

Jack is this the dog you got from bobby vest? My junie dogs mommie was pine mtn gracie she is a 3-4quater bred t-rex bitch father to daughter . The only part of her that was iffy was her mouth . Gracie was sorta tight
but brought some serious attributes to the table . One of the hardest hunting bitches i have ever owned or seen , she had the wildest mouth i have ever heard . It seems that t-rex sons and daughters as well as grandpups have killer mouths . If gracie had given more mouth shewould still be at jimmies house even though will mason owns her i fill sure he will tell you the same about her, i currently own a t-rex grand pup bitch that is still carrying that same old mouth . I will go a little deeper and say bird mouth dogs have no room at my home , if i want a bird mouth i will buy a bird . You are also in a line that takes time to develop , I actually beleive at around 2 years old they start to shine . Some lines come on earlier than ours but overall without knowing you personally i fill you will be impressed with what you have .

Bawls...
Bawls has the same wicked bark.... Its Scary...lol
Yes he is Gracie's Brother....
As far as his mouth goes, he is on the tigher side as far as pulling the first bark.... But from there on he is a barkin full.... Pulls his fair share of the checks...
I'm happy with him. Plus Mike Crabtree has run him and really likes what he sees.
There have been a few females bred to him so hopefully within 6-8 months we'll have a better understanding of what he is going to do...
Take Care,
Jack

Dont do it Rob! You never keep whole litters of pups, why would you want to start now. Just so you can breed a dog to its daughter. If I remember conversations we have had in the past your looking for a couple great dogs, not some consistantly average dogs. Again list the top 10 dogs you can think of,......are any of them father daughter crosses???????

MYBEAGLES
for someone who claims to be going to school for breeding you sure don't have a clue and you never will.I've said this to you before and I'll say it again how do you think some of the greats got where they did surely by not listening to you if you don't want to get a head in the game with dogs you keep watering them down with your outcrossing but to always bad mouth in/linebreeding get real or else drop out of your class as your not learning a thing better yet come over here and tell me my 5mth old pup from a father daugther cross is not right but tell me that after you see her run a rabbit track, man you just don't have a clue and it's a good thing the beagle breed doesn't revolve around your cracked theories.
