SAN QUANS DO OK FOR ME IF I LET EM RUN LOOSE IN A STARTING PEN FOR 3 OR 4 WEEKS BEFORE I TRY AND RUN THEM WITH MY DOGS.

does anyone know of someone in tenn who sells smokey mt bunnies, preferriably central tn. i have san juans in my starting pen, and they seem to be doing ok the longer i leave them out the wilder they seem to get, but they give out after a short race if they don't make it to the hiding barrels or the brush piles, so i would like to give these smokey's a try.

Thanks

Get you some Missouri Cottontails, or most any cottontail for that matter. They've got a lot of spunk in 'em and will run fast and for quite some time.

how do I get my hands on some of these different types of cotton tails you all are talking about. I have had people tell my to get san juans and I have been looking for them but after a few of these posts I am not so sure that is what I want anymore. I would be really grateful to anyone who could give me info on how to get some kind of cottontail. PM me or send me an email. or give me a call 937-465-0537

thanks,
Scott

A San Juan, Netherland Dwarf, or similar, slower rabbit is good for training a young pup. I've got mine on Netherland Dwarfs b/c they're fast enough, that the pups won't catch them real quick. I can run them for several months, whereas, a SJ will tire out quick and the pups will be all over them after a month at best. I also use Missouri Cottontails for when the pups start running faster, quicker, and have a better chance of catchin slower rabbits. Hope this helps.

 I raise san juans/redback crossed with belgium hare. They run good and live good in the wild, but you have to keep the predators thinned out.The same folks have been buying everything I raise for 12 years now. They are very pleased with them.
