Man thats a bummer!! I lost a good male that way last fall. I was depressed about it for months. You can bet that Lady just like my Joey ran that rabbit right thru the pearly gates of doggy heaven.

So sorry! Just a little story that might save someone a hound one day. I once had a beagle separate from the pack on a split. I immediately began catching the others up. When the others were safely loaded, I could still hear the lone beagle but he was quite a distance through rough cover and across property that I did not have authorization to enter at the time. I knew the owner well and knew he would grant me access but I also that he would be very angry if I did not ask first. I drove around to a state highway on the other side of where I last heard my beagle. The property owner of the land I needed access to lived up on the highway. My plan was to get permission to drive in from that side. Once there, the traffic was too heavy to hear a beagle any distance away. It was getting dark and I proceed down the highway, I saw something lying in the highway and I was sure it was my beagle! Much to my relief, it was only a rabbit! Greatly relieved, I circled the "block" (a four or so mile loop encompassing the area where the dog was missing). When I returned, my beagle was dead in the highway right beside the rabbit! I should have flung the rabbit thirty or so yards off the highway but I never thought of that. That simple act MIGHT have saved my beagle's life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know hindsight is 20/20 but I sure hate my lack of forethought on that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, sorry for your loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
