Laryngitis

Post by imagine1701 »

Sometimes my beagle will bark until he's hoarse. I didn't realize that any dog could bark until they were hoarse. Do you think that this is something I should be concerned about? He was to the vets a month ago and got a clean bill of health. Course he wasn't hoarse then. Any ideas of what I can do to help my little guy? Thanks for your support and advise. I find this site extremely helpful.

Is he getting hoarse from barking in the pen or when he is out running? If he is getting it from barking in the pen then get yourself a bark collar and make him shut up. If he is getting it from running I would have him checked real good for throat cancer or any growths in the throat area. My buddy had a good male about 2 years ago that would lose his voice from time to time, when he finally had him checked out he found out that the dog had a cancerous growth in it's throat. He had to end up putting him down. Good luck. I run my dogs year round and almost every day during gun season and have had no problems with any of them getting hoarse from barking while running. I have seen dogs get hoarse from nuisance barking though, and that is a pretty easy fix with a water hose or a bark collar. Good luck with your hound.

My boy is a talker. I find a squirt bottle seems to solve the excessive barking. He's got his voice back and only lost when the neighbor's dog came into season and he wouldn't be quiet. Thanks for all the help.
