snow run scottie

...on the ancestry of your new hound? This is your forum. Post your question and others will fill in the blanks for you. This is also a good forum for asking about particular hounds and bloodlines (past or present) when considering a breeding or purchase, or just breeding questions in general.

Steve..you shouldn't have to login to view the beagle database. Just scroll down on the main page to where it says "Beagles" under the on line databases and click on the link. ("Beagles" in the second one down on the left hand side of the on-line databases..just so you know you are in the right place.) Then it will bring up the screen Dexter described.

Steve,
I just tried it again to make sure and it worked fine for me. I typed in Snow Run Scottie and brought me to his name with the option to select pedigree, descendants, etc. It comes up at the very top of the screen. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to try next. :?: Good Luck!

Richard, I think I remember judging Scottie several years ago. Did Harold Doney own him at one time? I recall liking him very much but of course great snow nose isn't very often seen in the trials. I've heard only good about his ability in extreme cold and snow. Can you remind me who his sire and dam were? I appreciate the help and hope you're having a lot of fun with him this winter.

Snow Run Scottie

Post by Richard G »

For those that done get Better Beagling, Scottie's sire is FC Snow Run Bo-Jack, by FTC Branko's Jack of all Trades and FC Big Brook Dixie. Scottie's dam is Ottawa Lil Anne, by Brankos Scoobie Doo and Ottawa Saddie.

Yes Steve, Harold was the one who made Scottie what he is today. Scottie has been able to run almost every time out . Believe it or not he can still lead in the deep snow. He has the power, but not the speed for the fast days. His trialing days are over after one more. I will retire him from trials. Still looks to have a few good years left for Gunning. Always willing to show him.

Richard, I remember Scottie better now. I always enjoyed Harold's company at the trials and he always brought a good dog. I miss him. He bred a good bitch to my Merlin dog several years when I let him keep my dog for awhile and a few good ones came out of that cross. When I had Ranger Dan for awhile before Tom bought him, we ran against Scottie, and with Sprocket in there too there was some serious nose power in that little male class. I'm wondering if you have any idea what became of any of those bitches off Merlin that Harold had. I still have two off him here, but both are over 10 now and Molly will not be bred again. The other bitch came from John Hall's breeding to Merlin and she's produced some fine hounds from every male I bred her too. I may breed her one more time but she only had three pups last time. I hope Scottie's getting some breedings- I know that once a good hound is off the circuit no one seems to breed to him anymore. Merlin got very few breedings the last 4 or 5 years he was alive. I've now got an older male that's nearly as good as Merlin but he's had no breedings in the last year outside my kennel. Too bad because I haven't seen anything in the little males in the last two years that have his talent, yet a lot of them are being bred to regularly. Not enough good snow hounds around and most of them don't get used enough at stud. We're having a good hunting season here in Maine this year but a lot of our success is due to this old male and a veteran little bitch. Good luck with Scottie and good hunting to you.
