Beagles in Alaska?

Post by betchawecan »

Any one out there run beagles in Alaska. I'd like to get a pup or a young started dog. Anyone know what shipping into Bethel Ak from the states might run me?

I'm from Columbia Falls, Montana. I'm also looking for beagle pups through the internet. Have received lots of return e-mails in my search. I have been looking for pups out of champion stock and most of my search has been around Indianian or Ohio. I also want to know about the rabbit population in Alaska. Have you had any luck finding pups? Would appreciate a return response. E-mail b5ranch@digisys.net.

I have shipped beagles to Alaska and, as far as I know, the airlines that I have dealt with, American and Delta, will ship anywhere within the continental US plus Alaska and Puerto Rico for one standard fee based on total weight. Each of them has two different methods of shipping and the price is different for each one. The most expensive method is priority parcel service and the other is as regular cargo. Priority parcel service is a little faster with fewer layovers but, even with the cargo method the dog will normally get there the same day. The last time that I shipped, the fee for total weight up to 70 pounds was $162.50 for priority parcel service and $132 for the cargo rate. The total weight includes the shipping crate plus dog. The airlines require an airline approved shipping container, which you can buy at Wal-Mart, a health certificate from a licensed vet and a current rabies certificate if the dog is over three months of age. They also require that a pup be at least eight weeks of age. Yes, they do have snowshoe hares in Alaska and in some places they are plentiful.

I forgot to mention that these shipping fees, with the airlines, are the same regardless of origin or destination within the continental US, Alaska and Puerto Rico.

I regret that I have to admit that I did not keep a record of their names and I have forgotten it. I did not hunt hares in Alaska with beagles. I think that the folks that bought the pups from me lived in Kotzebue and they just wanted them for pets. I did hunt and kill some snowshoe hares while stationed at Anchorage back in the 70's but, we did not use dogs. I will be glad to answer any questions that you may have about shipping dogs. You can email me direct if you like.
