I have heard some great things about Babbitt's Brown face. Has anyone seen him or any of his pups run? He is from south westren Maine.

I have seen him run a couple times and he does great, not sure about his producing ability I have seen multiple pups out of him but nothing that seems to run as well as him. The pups out of him that I've seen were all under 2.5 yrs old so maybe they need more time to develop.

Brown Face has produced at least one FC as Babbitt's finished one this summer out of him. I also know that there is a female owned by a guy named Cliff Demerrit that has at least one win, possibly more at this point. If I remember right she won a SPO-H trial at the tender age of 10 months.

I marshalled the Trial of Champions at the Vermont Beagle Club in 2005. It was a hot July day and I watched what I thought was a domination. I thought for sure he was going to win. He ended up 2nd.

I have a pup out of Brown Face. He just turned a year old. I have not given him a fair amoutn of time but the time I have given him he has proven himself fairly well. He started very easy and from the very beginning has shown a lot of brains, patience and nose. I had him out on a hot day all by himself this past summer when he was about 5-6 months old. I watched him run a hare for about 1.5-2 hours steady. The hare was well ahead of him and I wondered if he was even running a hare until I saw it. I watched the hare come through and soon after my dog. He had geared right down and was nearly walking the track. I swear he was smelling everyt track the hare made. It was pretty awesome.

How have the same dogs done on snow? Most of the hunting I do is on snow so that is how I choose to evaluate a hound, it is possible that the young dogs I have seen would have been alot better in warmer conditions. When I went running with the pups out of Brown Face that I have seen the temps were down around 0-15 deg and there was quite a bit of snow. I do like the way Brown Face runs in the summer, he definitely doesn't quit, I just haven't seen a large sampling of pups out of him and the ones I have seen so far just haven't been exceptional.

Correction the female I spoke about is actually out of their other champ Smoker not Brown Face but the dog they finished this past summer is out of Brown Face.

I have only seen my pup out of Brown Face run, no others. I can't say as he does much on snow but I don't feel that it is all his fault. He was about 10 months old when I put him up for quite a while for deer hunting. Never got him back out until about 1 year old and he has been on snow probably 3 to 4 times since. I have seen him run with other dogs his age when they couldn't but that could be just the age thing like I said he is about 14 months now. I have a lot of hope for him. He knows what a hare is and he DEFINITELY has a BIG nose. Now if he can put it all together, we'll see. I'll try to keep you updated. I am busy this weekend but hoping the following weekend I will have him out solo.

PS If you are thinking of buying a pup from the Babbitt's I would call them. I am not sure if you know them but they are exceptionally nice people. They live right next to their home club plus they have a private running ground. I would bet they would be willing to show you how his pups do on snow. Never hurts to ask.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm not sure how many litters have been sired by him and what quality of female were bred. It hard to get an idea about reproduceabilty if the pups are not being trialed and are sold to hunters. Any further info greatly appreciated.
