Most of the older line of northway is med fast , unbelivable hunt and plenty of bottom end . Keep in mind most of original is in the south now .
Hope this helps

Like Jimmie said most are med fast, most run a good line, usually with a good chop mouth, most are the hardest hunting dogs you will find, with all the heart in the world,NO QUIT.

Todd curious to the foot, you feel the northern hounds have?
Danny G are you asking about Northway Kennel or dogs based on Northway Spur,i hear a lot of people talk about Northway hounds when they are mainly talking hounds based on Spur or males and females by him.Now days seem to be more branko blood in them then Spur blood.
The hounds i want to keep are ones based on spur or males from him.Like said above great hunt, good search,go all day and the next.Seem to look to jump the rabbit not wait on something else to find it.Most i have seen when mature are strong check dogs and want to bring the rabbit around.med fast foot with brains to gear down and walk if needed.Level headed and want to please,as in any line i have also seen my share of idiots. In my area they have the right amount of nose to run on the bad days.

i have 2 northway bred males extremly hard hunt awesome jump dogs that will never give up, upper med speed at the fastest, and they are the most well rounded hounds i have owned,,,,,,now like a previous post now days there is alot of branko throwed in as other breeds,,,,,,but if you want the old northway you will have to dig its still out there,,,,,,there is a lot of hard hitting northway in kentucky,,,,,,,just look up a few im sure they can tell you every thing there is to know about this blood and help you find the right combo,,,,,,,jmo,,,,,,,

Lynn, I don't know much about beagles-I just got my first one, a PP style female, last year that is Gay/Wiercreek and was thinking on what would be a good cross . I have 6 pups (7 weeks) from her now from a Little Ireland male. If they are good ones I'll stay with what works. Was just letting my mind wonder around the barn yard in case they don't work out.

Buzz was conceived in Ky,always figured him med-fast at best, but if not mistaken Rockstar was a NY hound and Buzz's mother was from Northway Jumpmaster which was a NY hound. Now i not going to disagree with you on foot being med-fast but dont see Northern crosses of Spur being any footer, except were paul stepped out of the line maybe ever now and then a faster one.
The footer of the Northway Spur hounds i have seen, have been thru Northway Ninja,he seemed to throw foot and plenty nose.My favorite crosses of spur were linebred Driver hounds with a cross of jumpmaster and/or Iceman and ninja

i agree with you lynn on the foot,,,,i had one female that was a driver bred hound that was probably an 8 1/2 on an excellent scenting day but for the rest i have seen med fast,,,,,,,,i have a half brother to buzz that is out of reffetts ky mtn sarahII and you couldnt roll him faster than med fast but,he has great hunt great jump, very good line and check dog with a truck load of brains,,,,,,

Do ya really have to have the front ? Give me one that is chopping to beat hell running in second . Let first place bobble , second just smacked his as- for him . Speeds like a pretty girl its nice but not always effective. I am figuring that much out .

jimmy,,,,,,,i dont strive for a front runner,,,,,,id much rather have a dog that could run 3rd and take control of the line and work it through a bad check than i would a fast front runner that over shoots the track by 30 foot and babbles till he blows the race,,,,,,,,,
so i dont know what your referring to here
