Indian Hills Night Train

Post by Hatfield »

I would like to hear from people who have seen Night Train run. I would also like to hear from those that have had pups out of him.

hey bud..

I got a 14 1/2 inch female out of Nighttrain. You can come run with her anytime you want. Just give me a call...

She is a pretty nice hound good hunt good foot decent nose. I have heard that Nighttrain didn't have much hunt but could could run the hair off of a rabbit. Never seen this personally but it is from hearsay...might be jealous

call me we will talk about it...

I have a Nightrain female that was doing really good until a accident that left her three legged.I'd say they are above average in brains and med to upper med when running a hot rabbit, but can and will slow down to unravel a hard check.I've not seen my little hound over run the line either. She shows alot of patience when hunting and on the check.I still run her once or twice a month to keep her in shape for breeding purposes.Looking foward to getting another or even breeding to Nightrain.I've heard that when he jumps a rabbit he's latched on for dear life.He must be a very good hound because few people are willing to talk about him, maybe because he has whipped alot of them or just plain jealousy you decide.John

This is second hand info but from a source I trust completely who has had several offspring from Nightrain at his training facility in northern Maine. According to him, these young hounds have looked as good as anything he's seen on bad winter conditions. I plan to investigate this dog myself. Evidently they have lots of nose, good foot and clean mouth.

why not come and see him run for yourself. I have his pups here too. Like Steve C, said, several of his pups have been shipped to new York and are trained at a facility in Maine and hunted under much worse conditions than you see here. That man has almost nothing in his kennels except Indian Hills. very pleased with them. But as I said and I think I have talked to you on the phone, you are welcome to come and see Train for yourself. most of the naysayers are eat up with jealousy. Again, why take anyone's word come see for yourself. anyone that wants to is more than welcome to come to my home.

No anger

Post by R.B. Sester »

there is no anger. I just want everyone to know that anyone is welcome to come and see for themselves instead of taking peoples word about things. if it sounded like anger, then I am sorry. it certainly was not meant to be that way. Just stating a fact. I encourage people to come to my kennel and run with me either in the pen or out. Anyone's welcome.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. didn't mean to offend and you are right about him selling himself (or his pups). I turned down 6,000.00 for him last winter.

Mr. Sester, can you tell me where you would attribute this high level of nose to? I see lots of hounds with good nose but few that have shown the ability that NT's pups have shown. I'm not very familiar with the pedigree on him, but are there particular hounds you can identify in the pedigree that deserve credit here? Nose is the most important trait to me, followed closely by clean mouth and few have this combination. Once in a while I find a stud throwing these traits, but not often. I am looking to breed a top bitch one last time and NT would be on my short list- and it's a VERY short list. Thanks in advance.

my bloodline

Steve, Nightrain goes all the way back to my first champion. Indian Hills Majer. All my dogs get all their traits and noses from him. he is the one that got me into the Hall of Fame. That and the fact that I have bred and finished about eleven Field Champions. I will be glad to talk with you further. your best bet to reach me anytime is on my cell. 859-265-7370. BTW, thanks for the compliments on nightrain. You can find a pedigree on him and my other stud, Phelp's Lil' R.B., who I bred, then sold and then reaccquired at www;mid_west_gundog.com under the stud ads on the left. Their pictures are there also.

Let me tell you why I asked for info on Train and his pups. I am interested in breeding to him . I wanted an open didcussion on him and his offspring. You get a lot of crap behind closed doors. I don't have time to go watch the hound run first and ask questions later. There would be no way I could go watch as many of his pups run as I would like. I figure I have a tool for open disscussion why not use it. To all that replyed, thanks for the info.
R. B. I came down there about 3 mos. ago, bought 2 and traded for another. I am the guy that you got the young black tick gyp "Gee-Gee" from.
Thanks, Robert Hatfield

Mr. Sester, thanks for the reply. I visited the Midwest site and liked the photo and pedigree. I ran some against Ace in the Hole with my Merlin dog back in the early 90's and we had some good races running against the likes of Proper Baron, Casanova, Sam Jr, Spencer and others. Lots of great little males in those days. When John told me how highly he thought of Night Train, I listen as John is very hard to please and few hounds meet his standards when it comes to nose. I like the fact that NT is a 13" hound and looks to have an exceptional build. I don't care a lot about speed, but do like a fast hound if he has the nose to support his speed. I assume NT will be staying with you in KY. A long way to send a bitch, and I hate to ship; but I might go ahead with it to get the nose I need. This little bitch won't get outnosed anywhere she's run and I want to breed her one more time if I have a chance to maintain her nose in the next generation. I'll give you a ring and hope she doesn't come in heat before the weather breaks.
