James Hitchcock owns him, he lives in southern Indiana. If you look in the upcoming litters Shortty has some pups out of him coming. He might be able to give you James number.

I judged him once, and he dominated the whole cast that day. He has a big mouth, very good hunt, and very good foot. He didn't seem wild or rough that day, but it was in indiana and the scenting was good and I only got to see him for 1 hr. He is a 15 inch hound and if I can remember he looked pretty good. I didn't know what his name was until the end of the cast when I asked the handler, and was surprised to find out it was showboat.

J&k You could also try a fellow named Adam Spencer, He goes by AVSPENCER here on the board. He can give you information along with James PH #.

J&K,

Showboat orginally came from Dick Powell in Illnois. A fellow by the name of Mike Price got him from Dick as a young dog. Mike doesn't trial much and he sold him to Scott Surber of Crawfordsville, In. Scott ran and trialed Boat all of his early trial career. Scott lost his wife to Cancer and had to put the dogs on hold, I ended up buying the dog from the Surbers and after quite a bit of harrassement from James, I sold Boat to him. James and I are kennel partners on a few dogs and we are good friends, I talk to him weekly. I have seen Boat run since he was a young hound. He is a full 15", tri-color, runs a good line with good foot with a rapid every breath chop mouth. When he was a young hound he would range out quite deep and was shortened up with the e-collar. He has always been trash free. I would say his biggest weakness is his hunt and I consider that a result of the e-collar. If the rabbit is up and running, he will be there and doing his part. The dog can solo a rabbit as well or better than he can run one in a pack. He is a LP rabbit champion with 3 wins towards grand and he is a UKC HBCH. He is also a LP bench champion. He is a dog that loves the gun and will circle rabbits to you all day long. He is one of those dogs that gets better and stronger the longer the race goes. He doesn't take to the heat very well and it will show in his hunt. He must be like a cat with nine lives as he has been hit by a car twice and is still alive and able to run daily, the vet said the last time that he wasn't hurt worse due to his muscular build, he is by far the strongest beagle I have ever been around. James just bought a new place and is very busy getting things in order. His address and number have changed and I have both new ones. If interested you can either email me at dogrunnerone@sbcglobal.net or you can call me (765)659-3959 and I will give you James' number. At this time he isn't breeding him much to outside females and we plan on finishing him out in LP as a grand, in UKC to a Grand and we might try some PP hunts. He has been in one AKC trial and was picked up after dominating the cast because he got hot and quit hunting. Is he the best dog out there- No, but he is for sure a good rabbit dog that can and will fill the game bag with rabbits. Hope this helps and answers your questions about him.

He is a full littermate brother to DreamBoat that Matt Glomski had that got hit and killed by a car, I guess these dogs didn't learn to look both ways before crossing. Sire is Turbo by Prop and the Dam is Larsens Copper. Hope this helps. If I can help let me know. I would take your number and give it to James, but he is quite busy with the new place and I wouldn't want to say he would call you and then him not be able to.

I have Judged ShowBoat several times and he has always dominated the pack. I have seen a male out of him that Craig Loucks owns he calls Cryptonite which I have also had the pleasure to Judge and run against. That is the reason I bred to him ( I have seen how Showboat runs and also what he produces) I cant say a bad word about either dog both leed the front with speed , desire and know how to run a rabbit right. Thanks Shorty Johns

We've seen Boat off and on since he was around a year old, and trialed with him in both UKC and ARHA. He is one really nice dog. When he got hit the one time, he was in the Champion class cast with our Lucy bitch, and the people who found him in the road called me (from Lucy's collar) because she wouldn't leave his side. I was freaking because it sounded bad for Boat and I couldn't get ahold of anyone on any of their cell phones. (I was steamed, lol. Cell phones left in the truck are no help. Keep 'em on ya in the field.) He ended up having a crushed shoulder I do believe.

Anyway, as Craig said, he rebounded from that accident and was back competing within a few short months. Boat has a lot of heart and was still rearing to go long before the vet said it would be okay, but James followed the vet's care to the letter. He's also a very handsome boy (good conformation) with a good disposition. Just thought I'd throw in another outsider's account.
