There is a gentleman in Warsaw, Ohio , who rasies and breeds the Patch
line. His name is Phil Walls Sr. This man is one of the most dedicated in the breeding of Patch beagles. You should get togeter and talk with him.

To old to cut the mustard, you can always run beagles
You are correct, I don’t have any of those big ole hounds that will romp through the woods like Walker hounds. I’ve got mostly 14” dogs that will hunt within 2 or 300 yards of you & check by you once in a while to stay in touch with you. I have never hunted any snowshoe hare but may get to someday, probably similar to running red fox in the river bottoms like the old timers did when I was a kid. I have buddies in upstate KY that go every year for a week & they been begging me to go & I probably will when I can. They have Patch dogs & maybe I will get to test mine too. I understand what you are talking about completely, I just don’t have the need to breed specifically for Hare hunts, a week or two a year. I agree it will test the grit in your dogs, no argument from me on that, only test I can do is pounding in cat claw briars @ 98% humidity down here. I do understand completely though & will concede, I have never seen & I don’t know anybody that does raise the type of hounds Willet could produce & hunt. I never have seen any of the OLD hounds run if OLD is before 1980, that is when I saw a Patch for the first time (that I knew for sure was Patch) Both you guys probably a lot older than me. lol
I can only daydream about how great it would have been to be around back in the wilderness days & hunt like that with hounds suited to that era, I bet Willet had a ball. Been a pleasure chatting with you fellers, maybe we can get together & hunt someday so I can get educated on them Northern dogs.

posting at 11:00 in the day !!! my my get yourself a real job Easy Money. I'm sorry to say if a dog isn't smart enough to know when to quit you better be breeding some intelligence back in them. I can turn any of my old dumb potlickers loose and they will be smart enough to come home later tonight or in the day tommorrow depending on their condition. If they haven't been out but a couple times in a month I will expect them to quit in a couple hours but at the end of Gun season they will run 7 to 8 hours a day for several days . I owned one once that ran for four days almost all the time and then was laid up for a week and a half after that he got a lot smarter he'd run 3-4 hours come in and rest and go back out later and never was laid up any more. As for Plowboys dogs they can hold their own well I'll put it this way his dogs has not been what was worn out and ready to quit when we've Gun hunted together and I've never seen one of his dogs go to the truck in the afternoon for a bowl of soup , You guys are splitting hairs anybody that fooled with beagles knows that 6 different litter mates are six different dogs, they look , act, hunt ,eat , sleep and bark different. I've fooled with a few for the past 35 years and most of them are like their master, I guess thats why mine are dumb as a rock and lazy. Oh and by the way the best dogs with patch blood in the pedigree are in my kennel!~! haha
