Hunting hare in the UP

Post by Kelly »

I've hunted in Nov. on bare ground and in Dec. on snow with some success. Last year i was very disapointed with the lack of hare in both the Eastern and Western UP. No lack of wolves though and that was not fun. 2-3 years ago I had a friend lose his male to a wolf. It didn;t quite kill it so he had to finish it off. Last year I heard of some guys who dropped 6 beagles down at their first hunting spot and wolves came in and killed every one. Not fun!

We've gone up to Drummond Island (eastern UP) for past 5 yrs in Oct. We've always run a ton of hare, last year was the best year we've had yet. Almost too may hare, alot of splits.

Snowed a few inches the first year we went up, nothing but maybe a light dusting here or there the other years.

Gun season opens Nov 15 and closes the last day of Nov. Do NOT come up then. Just a heads up for ya.
