My beagle's first heat

Hi Folks,
My 11 month old beagle just came into her first heat today. I'm going to monitor her very closely and have bought her a diaper for in house use. I'm concerned about causing her an infection and considered taking her diaper off when she sleeps at night in her cage. Do you have any advise for me to protect her from pregnancy and infection? I think that the chances of an infection are very remote but, you will want to keep her away from males. She may become very restless and hyperactive during this time and will take any opportunity to get out and find a male. Good luck.

ranger is correct i dont think the diaper will cause a problem but she WILL do everything possible to get to a male....good luck

Ah, alas. Naughty little pup. I've been monitoring her closely and keep her confined most of the day. I'm sure to let her out to relieve herself though. How long will she need to be confined? I've heard anywhere from 3 - 4 weeks. I'm so grateful to you for your help in this. I was lead to believe by professional sources that she might die from infection, but then I thought, well if they all get infections, how in the world have dogs lasted so long? 7 days coming in, 7 days in, and 7 days going out. Some dogs will stay in a little longer, but I use this model for controlling my females and so far so good.
