I would say Kingwoods or Turbo. I have both and when turned loose they don't even stop to pee. Next thing you know, one of them has a rabbit up and running. Thanks

Well from all the post so far in reference to hunt. Looks like Northway is going to be in first and Sock it to me in second. I will all ways have the two in my breeding program.

Hope you guys aren't using hunt as a substitute jumping ability. They aren't the same, and a good jump dog in one area of the country is is a cull in another area. If you want efficiency in jumping you would be better finding a strain of dogs in your area rather than a bloodline. All Branko, Granppy, Ranger Dan, Northway, or any other strain don't jump a lot of rabbits. There are individuals that are spectacular but I have seen some that would and ssome that won't.

Gus , you may be right but, they gotta hunt to jump it .Also a hard hunting
dog will jump more and learn where they are at . I have been lucky enuff to own 2 that would hunt till his death and also wind rabbits , kinda hard to explain but if anyone has one they know what i am talking about .
HARD HUNT = RABBIT JUMPING ABILITY .A good hunting dog will never
go out of style in any part of the country ;) Just my thoughts.

jump dog

I borrowed my buddys dogs that hunted on the run all the time. He would run around the thickest places if it was one in there he would dive in. He is not a thrasher but has a nose in the air and rabbit sense. He hunts you not the other way around. I was leashing him up one afternoon to walk across a road when he started opening up. I thought I was kneeling on his foot. I decided to let him go and he jumped a rabbit under a log 10 yards away. He obviously has a gift of a good nose that not all dogs have.
His breeding was the old HH Crain. Never stops running till you put him in the box.

I have dogs with sock it to me in the background that hunt pretty good. The Chester female I have has Northway Spur and driver in her ped. She hunts like a demon. She is more of a thrasher but she covers alot of ground. I have a Syris Mcgee female with sock it to me on the dam side that hunts good but she is not a frantic hunter. She jumps alot of rabbits by picking the right trail with no extra mouth. Two different styles but they will jump rabbits for you. I think brains factor into the equation. I am reasonably new to owning hounds but I have learned alot in the last few years by watching close and running every chance I get.

Very good answer and true. Look for a jump dog and breed a jump dog to it and you should get a few good ones.

I love a hard hunting dog and try to keep dogs that will hunt , but intelligence will out perform hunt 8 out of ten times. I have a ver y hard hunting dog that hunts harder then any of the others but jumps less rabbits. The other dogs just get to the better spots quicker and jump the rabbits. I've been accused of home cooking because I turn dogs loose and they run staright to a place they have jumped a dozen rabbits in the past and jump one up.I don't know how they do that since a lot of the professional tariners say a dog only has a very short memory. I love a hard hunting dog but a good old rabbit smart jump dog will get it done better.

I have no idea the number of rabbits or the terrain you guys hunt so a ranging dog that hunts hard may be able to scare up a lot of rabbits in your country. Where I hunt that type dog is inefficient. In this area a dog that hunts heavy cover using their nose and brains can follow behind hunters using the type dogs you describe and limit out. Tnbeagleman knows what I am talking about. There is nothing more frustrating to me than turning out dogs near heavy cover and the dogs sprint past the cover for a hundred yards thaen fan our over three acres. A good jump dog should, on being released, head for the nearest likely spot for a rabbit and start hunting from there. There is a tremendous difference between hard hunters and good jumpers.

Amen to the brains and cover searching dogs. I've had to jump rabbits for too many running around wide open "so called hunting dogs". Give me one that looks for good cover and knows how to push around through it and I'll kill more rabbits any day. A lot of inexperienced in gun hunting beaglers think a lot of action means a lot of hunt and nothing is farther from the truth. I had a female out of FC. New City Cruiser that was old by the time I got her and she didn't hardly get out of a fast walk while hunting but she would jump more rabbits than most people must less dogs. I turned her out once on a farm neither one of us had ever been on and said to her when she hit the ground that "I'll jump more rabbits than you ole girl today". She jumped five, a female out of her jumped one, and I jumped one. Now that was with me trying hard to jump rabbits while she was running the ones she jumped.
Yeah if I was going to go buy a pup and hunt was my only priority than it would be one out of Reffett"s Ky Mtn. Sampson as close as I could get him. But FC. Rabbit Ridge New York Knick would be a tight second. I just love the brains and easy to break hounds I'm getting out of this line.
Plus they are enjoyable to look at too. Some hounds from these other lines mentioned are not too much to look at ecspecially in their heads. So give me the brains first and the rest will fall into place USUALLY; I said.

I would have to say Northway also. I have some Ellison Ridge Redman blood here that is a little better than decent too. ;)
