Going to build Above Ground to look like a barn-Now Complete

yep.....i came up with this idea and I think i'm going to make it happen. I like building things so I'd like to experiment with this.

I'm going to stop by any local shed dealers and take various pics of them. Roof design and panel usage.

basically make a barn style roof for it wire the run all the way around and build the house into the back part but yet look like a barn. The image of it is in my head. Hard for me to describe but I think it's going to look pretty cool. paint it two different colors just like a shed or barn. It will measure 10ft or so by 4ft wide or 4.5ft wide. Something like that.

I'll start on it March or april. take my time.

Cant' wait to break out the miter and skill saw boys.......and the :hammer: then do some of this :bash: I'm going to try and make something pretty darn cool looking.

I'll have progress pics.

Next month going to rebuild the floor on one of my above grounds and use it as a whelping pen for my pups to come. Then either tear it down or give it away. Whatever don't matter to me. My new barn/shed above ground will take it's place.

Maybe I'm a lil crazy.........but I think it could be done

something like this here. But on a much much much smaller scale. The house part to be 30x30 square or something like that don't know on the height. And the entire thing off the ground about 3.5 feet. or so.

So I stopped by home depot last night. I am pretty sure I'm going to make this happen. They have 6 sheds on display and I walked in each one of them and got a good look at how the roof was designed. Pretty easy seems like it. I also got a good look at the material used for the side walls. Guess what they sell the same exact panels inside the store........lol I walked around in home depot for a bit and I felt like a lil kid in a candy store.

Before I became a mechanical draftsmen I wanted to be a carpenter. Well I chose sittin in an office over working outside. :moon:

I'm slowly working on CAD drawings for it. I already picked up the 3.5x3.5 post for free. Got them out back at work. I have two that are 10footers. I think 8 total I still have to haul them home.

this is what I got so far. 11ft long X 4'-6" wide. Wood slotted floor. Dog house in the back is 24" x 4'-6" wide. Which I think I'm going to make it smaller. Will be some dead space. in there. I thinking about insulating the dog house. Now I need to draw up my roof.

You might think about insteadof having dead space in house area, move that wall over by opening, then make an opening in it to go into the housing area. Makes a wind barrier. So the dogs go in and then make a right through the wall into their house. Hope i'm not confusing you by how i'm wording this. Here is a pic of my houses that shows what i'm saying.

Good Idea.........I know what you talking bout. Give me a sec and I'll fix up that drawing. I was trying to figure a way to insulate it but Its hard drawing it. Different when you're actually building it.

something like this. I didn't spend to much time with drawing it nicely. But I see your point.

And I will have a big door at the back so I can get into the house part.

this is what I was thinking for a roof. Traditional Barn style roof. Need to add plywood and shingles.

like so. The sides will be made out of the same material as a shed. They sell the panels at home depot. Basically it will enclose the sides and back part also run 4 inchs or so across the entire front. I'll draw that up later.

you do some cool stuff, do or would you set these in a way that the dogs get some sun since most of them love laying in the sun ??

yeah they get sun. The way I put them in my yard. Sun will shine into the front for a few hours maybe 3 solid hours. I see them all the time laying up front gettin sun.

a little more. Working on it a bit at a time on my breaks.

going to plywood the under side of the roof with very thin plywood. the thinnist stuff I can find. maybe put a coat of paint on it or water sealer
