Hi, In a few weeks I am going to build a new kennel. I have decided to put either concrete, pea sized gravel, or gravel dust for flooring. But I dont know which would be best. What would yall recomend any advice would be a big help.

I really like my concrete. Easy to clean.

hope this helps ya, the crap falls through, i clean it every other day and put regular dish soap and bleach on the ground and spray it off, nice and clean afterword

the reason for above groung is worms, fleas, i dont have as much trouble with flies

I built some above ground kennels over a year ago and love them, don't know why I didn't use them years ago. Dogs really like them, stay much cleaner and little to no problem with flies. Keeps the dogs much more comfortable in the winter... no iced ground or wet ground to mess with. Sometimes I clean them out once a day.... sometimes once every couple weeks and it's no problem. Don't have to bend over at all to feed the dogs either. If needed with a little help from a friend or two I can easily move the kennels to different parts of the yard or to a different location if I move..... tough to do with a hunk of concrete. Above ground is the way to go in my opinion.

I agree with the off ground kennels. It seems to me my dogs stay cleaner, less fleas, and flies too. My problem with concrete is winter. I have seen it wet and the water freeze and pull the pads off the dogs feet. You really have to stay after it to to really keep it clean. Winter poses a problem with cleaning also. Wire is usually quite a bit cheaper to. I'am currently building a 6 stall kennel on the back of my new building. I have the runs finished. Now I like the tin on top and my houses inside. I plan to use 4 inch PVC with a Y at the bottom for water and feed running inside the house's. Reason being to make it easier in winter and prevent freezing water. I will have my houses 16 inches off the floor so I can slide a plastic tote under door to clean out old bedding. I wraped my house doors in metal so they would not chew them up. I built next to the creek so I plan to put tin under my wire floor for waste to fall on it will drain into a gutter then in a 4 inch pipe and go to the creek. I'am hoping for no smell at all. I think this will work for me. Hope this gives some ideals or helps someone. For the record I have tried about everything but I really like this Idea. Good hunting to all.
