Hi all!! This is my first post to the board and I'm excited to be here and learn from all of you.
I'm new to beagling and wanted to get opinions on building kennels. I've noticed a lot of beagle owners have above ground pens and I was curious as what the advantage of this was? We have a decent sized barn which isn't used for anything other than storing junk. We were recently discussing the option of making two of the stalls part of a kennel where the dog's can come inside to keep warm and stay out of the weather and the other half outside. What are your opinions on this and the advantages and disadvantages you see?? I should have mentioned before now we also have a black lab we use for duck and goose hunting so whatever we decide to make will include him as well.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting and learning from all of you
Nick

I believe it is easier to clean up.
Re: Kennel Building
no other suggestions or tips from anyone????
Re: Kennel Building
I prefer upright kennels for a few reasons. I live in Indiana and when it is cold and nasty out I can let it go for a few days w/o my dogs having to walk in it. They have less fleas and worms. The only bad part is you have to clip their nails but that is nothing. I poured a concrete pad and was going to put up chain link kennels but after this weather I have decided to build uprights and place them on the concrete pad instead. JMO

Your more than welcome Nick. My barn was a horse barn that had also become storage. I cleaned it out and filled it with about 6" of pea gravel, then put up the panels and gates. If you set yours up this way you'll want to put down some type of wire about 1' to 2' wide on the ground and tie to the panels. The dogs will not move back and dig behind the wire only up in the corner at the panels so your set. I like the fact it's so easy to clean up. All you'll need is a pooper scooper to pick up the mess. It's nice having them inside in bad weather because your inside taking care of them and not out in the cold and wet. It also gives them a limited view of things outside to raise cain about.(LOL) Good luck and feel free to ask anything you want. I'll try to help anyway possible. Ive always had my dogs on the ground and only problem ive had is i had a 3month old pup catch parvo once (saved him tho)
...i clean kennels daily so he picked it up out running around...I like my dogs in ground kennels cause it gives them room to run around when ur like me and dont have time to run them everyday.....I have my kennel built on to a barn but sorta cant tell alot from the pic. other than there's a barn and a dog kennel
