No , no need down here. I built a lil base around the sleeping area and gave them some pinestraw last week cause it got down around 20 a couple of nights.No houses made it alot easier to build, all i had to do is run a 2x4 through the wire and nail my boards to it for the platform they sleep on

Thanx good lil set up for me , i can keep 2 dogs to a run ,each run is 4x8 and seems to work out well

What is Pine Straw?

you serious? If so it is fairly common here in the south , they bale the pine needles from slash and longleaf pines. makes an excellent bedding.

Is it sticky? I've never seen it for sale before. I've used a lot of different beddings; heard I guy mention pine needles a few years ago, but didn't know you could buy it.

No not sticky at all ,thats what it is ,the pine needles. Can get it anywhere arounf here usually sale a 28-30- lb bale for 3.00 or so

I just got back today from a vacation in Florida. On the way home I saw a trailer with a lot of bales of what I think was this pine straw. This is kind of a coincidence since I posted on this before I left on vacatiion. The bales were a little redder in color then straw and as I passed it looked like long pine needles. I'm just wondering if it was pine straw I saw, and why this guy would have probably 200 bales on a flatbed trailer. I've never heard of this stuff; I wonder how many guys from the north haven't heard of it. I used to use what's called swamp grass (up here) as bedding & I know guys even up here who have never heard of this either.

I have used pine needles before, we used to have 3 big white pines in our yard. We kept the pine needles raked up around the base of the tree, better than wheat straw,and ceader shavings in my opinion.
My favorite beeding by far is plain old fescue grass clippings from the yard. My dad had very thick grass in his front yard and we would let it go a couple of extra days and cut it,rake it and put it in a 55 gallon drum. It would last all winter.Sounds like alot of work but it only took a few min, and you could count on it not having fleas and tick eggs in it.

Yes SGC that was pinestraw, arounf here they usually load it on a 53 ft enclosed semi trailer. Depends on the size of the bale but they usually get around 1000 bales on a trailer.
