running pen

Post by stew »

I am planning to build a 1 1/2 acre training pen for pups. I was wondering if the pen will be big enough to condtion a grown hound from time to time.

Depends on how thick it is and what kind of rabbits you have in it. I wouldn't see a problem w/ it if it's thick as all get out. At the same time, it's not ideal for a grown hound, especially a good one, they might could catch & eat your rabbits.

well my question seems to go right along with this so ill add it in here..

what is the smallest area that can be fenced in for nothing more than introducing puppies to chasing a bunny before taking them to the wild to hunt them up?

i am asking because me and my friend are thinking we can do a pretty small just to get the pups started because other than that we have to drive more than 30mins closer to an hour to get somewhere that we can start the pups and while we dont mind the driving we dont want to drive that far to try and start pups if we can do it at his house and then make those longer drives to work them in the wild once started

We use an area that is 30' x 60' just to introduce pups to the rabbits. then move up to a 100x100 with good cover at about 12 weeks up till they can find em good.....you know using thier noses...

I only have an 8 acre pen. It is small enough to start pups and large enough to run young dogs.
