Kennel silencers....water jet or ultrasonic...???.....

Post by high ridge joe »

I live up north and would only be able to use the water jet unit during warm temps..when it gets cold...the water source would be frozen ( outdoor hose )...has anyone used the ultra sonic units or have an opinion on their effectiveness?
We are moving from a house in the middle of nowhere and buying a home that has a neighbor close by....I would like to get one of the silencers but not sure which one yet...

Thanks

How many dogs do you have? Could you rotate a bark collar or is that not effective?

Good luck........this topic remind's me of this morning. I have four beagle's and I live in a neighborhood. The house's you could say are stuck together with a very small backyard. Well 6:25a.m. rolls around and the beagle alarm clock sounded off. 4 beagle's all barking at the same time. I get so mad when they do that. I don't even want to know what the nieghbor's were thinking. They will start barking and barking all together for about 1 to 2 minute's. I have to get up and open the window and yell at them. They kept doing it every 15 minute's or so. I just got so mad I went out and taught them a lesson. It had to be done. PERIOD I don't want to deal with cop's or angry nieghbor's. I busted out the garden hose opened it up full blast and went to town on them. They have got to learn. I didn't wet them to bad but I did get the point across. My one young 10 month old female you gotta love her she just sat there wagging her tail when I sprayed her. She didn't have a clue what I was doing. Gooffy dog if you ask me. But the other's knew what was going on. They headed for the dog box's. AND let me tell you not a peep. We will see tomorrow morning.

Hoses work better, but you will see it in your water bill.

My neighbor (owns Hillbilly Hunting Beagles) keeps about 40-50 beagles.
He has the ultrasonic and it helped at first, now the dogs are immune to it.
He tried the sprinkler method and said it ran his water bill up too high.
If you go the sprinkler route, I would try to find nozzles with the relay built into it.

His has one relay on a common pipe.
What happens is the sound opens the relay.
Water comes on and has to fill up all the piping before it gets to the last nozzle.
By that time the first nozzle has been squirting for 20-30 seconds.

You need to set it up where the nozzles have pressure on it, and sprays as soon as the relay is tripped.

Now he has privacy fence around where the dogs can't see what is going up and down the road (people walking, other dogs, etc.)

My dogs get mouthy in the kennel if I don't have them out running every couple of days. This time of year they are noisy anyway because they are sleeping outside the dog houses and hear everything that goes on.
I have put the collars on them before and when they wake me up, I bump the dog I hear barking.

Well I found out what the dog's have been barking at everymorning for the past couple day's. I sinking rabbit........I saw the rabbit sitting in the grass kind of laying low. I said that is it. I opend the kennel door and told my big male GET IT. real loud. Yes they were barking again this morning. He took off after that rabbit like you wont belive the rabbit kept zig zaging back and forth and he couldn't catch it. It got away. Then I had to chase my dog down in front of my neighbor's houses. HEHEHE

Well I make it back to my house with my dog. I put him up. I walk over to were the rabbit was laying. And guess what I find. Baby rabbit's in a hole. OMG i shouldn't have let my dog chase it. I didn't know. I am going to take some pic's and post it today after work. I don't know what to do now. I guess I am going to tell my nieghbors the dog's are barking at a rabbit with babies in my backyard just so you know please don't call the cop's.

I have rabbits that come out in the yard, sometimes not 20 feet from the kennel.
The dogs go nuts, and sometimes start barking and biting each other where they are going into a frenzy.

At night I go to the freezer, grab a handful of ice and throw it at the kennel. They know now if they are barking, the porch light kicks on, and the door swings open to take cover and shut up.

That also scares what ever they are barking at in the yard.

During the day, I just turn them out when I see a rabbit sitting in the yard.

Now that rabbit is going to keep coming into my backyard. To feed the baby rabbit's. What should I do. Get rid of the baby rabbit's and cover the hole back up. To save the pain from dealing with my neighbor's thought's about my dog's. Or let the baby rabbit's grow and live to run around the neighborhood. and let the dog's bark like crazy everytime they see the rabbit. I am not home all day long to moniter what my dog's are doing. So like right now they could be barking at it and I don't know. Then someone could call the human society and they will come take my dog's from me without me even knowing untill I get home.

Can you put a tarp or blanket up so the dogs can't see it.
You could build the rabbit a privacy fence

The babies will be out in less than 3 weeks, but then they will be running around the yard.

Joeyman do like silverzuk said and throw a tarp over them or cover up the areas where they can see with some cardboard. The babies will be gone in 2 weeks time. Then they also will be feeding on that nice green grass! lol.

My problem is with armadillos at night.Dogs go bonkers when they get around the kennel.I have the sprinkler system in my kennel right in the center up against the wall.I have it set to where it does one sweep across the pen and shuts off. They go running for the house. When i hear them bark i go outside with the shotgun and take care of business.Right now my count on armadillos is up to 118 and there's no end in sight.

I know all 15 of my hounds mouths so I just pick out the worst offender and start there with a shock collar. Rotate it around to different hounds as needed. You can also start out with collars on a few. After a couple of lessons all it will take is 1 collar rotated around though. One of my hounds can squeal and they'll all head to the houses and shut up.

joeyman,I was told by a college professor that wild rabbits made their nests out of grass and leaves and that was what the young lived off of.The mother only hangs around to lead preadators away.So maybe she will decide to stay away.
