I used to use the blue plastic 55 gal drums as doghouses in my old kennels. I just placed them between 4x4s on each side and didn't elevate. I've seen some guys that hang them, prob. for that reason, but it didn't suit me as I had pea gravel & rock dust flooring and didn't spray my kennels.

I took an old wodden pallet and nailed a couple of two bys on each side and then put the barrel in between the 2x4's. It's high enough to spray underneath if your careful. It also keeps the barrel from rolling around in the wind or when the dogs get in or out.

Good luck.

I used rebar to make mine with. Just cut and welded my pieces together, made a rectangle and welded 4 legs about 8 to 9inches long and sat the barrel down in. They sit about 4 to 5 inches off the ground and it's no problem to clean out from under them.
