I am thinking of building an above ground kennel. I was thinking of building the runs 4' x 4'. Do you guys think a 4' x 4' run is big enough?

you atleast want a run to be 30 square feet and if its that small you need to be getting your dogs out several days a week. 4x8 is the smalles id ever recomend i have done 3x7 but i was hunting dogs 5 days a week then so they where out alot.

Our above ground kenels are 4x10'. And their boxes are on the outside, so they have plenty of room.

Our Runs are in 4x7. The sleeping area is 2x4 ft. We use hay to keep them warm. Silverzuk we should get together and run sometime.

Thanks guys I think I will go with 4'x6' or 4'x8' runs. The more I think about it the smaller 4'x4' sounds. Thanks again.

Blue Briar, I've got 6- 4x4 runs on wire and it is plenty for a beagle. I run at least 2 time a week and they do fine on this. i've also held two dogs in each 4x4 and there is plent of room for them. I've seen were dogs on too big of a outside run on wire will run around and get thier foot caught in the wiring and do some damage. i use 1' squared wiring called crusher wire. this stuff works great. I've even got some 12 week old pups that don't have any problem walking on it. I like my dogs separated so they each can have thier own diet of food. It's easier to manage your dogs this way and find out if there is anything wrong with them if they are apart.. I'll try to post a pic tomarrow for you.. Dave

I would love to see a pic of your kennels. The biggest reason I would like to make the runs 4'x4' is so the cost of building the kennel would be a little cheaper. Treated lumber is prettty high here in WV.

Their giving us 3-6" of rain over the next 3 days. If 1" of rain equates to 10" of snow, you guys should be butthole deep by weeks end.
Looks great, wish we had some...
