Has anyone bought or used the heated water pans that you plug into 110 outlet. How did they do and does anyone have suggestions

Dont use the hard brittle plastic ones. I lost a female 2 years ago she chewed it and ate some of it.
I have the 2 gallon heated buckets now, they work great.

Yesterday I saw some in Wal-mart. They are good hard plastic (blue) and a nice medium size. 24.99

I build a box out of wood cut holes for the bowls mount a light bulb under the bowl and it does a great job at keeping it from freezing just one way good luck at finding something that works for you

I have a plastic white one that I got from Lion Country Kennel Supply.
It is 3 years old.
I keep it pinned in between blocks with the cord completely on the outside of the fence. I have had no problems with them chewing on it or knocking it over.

I use 5-7 gal. plastic buckets, take my hand saw and cut them down to just over 1/2 as tall, set the bottom half down inside the upper half, after I've hooked the handle through the chainlink fence. When they freeze, I take the frozen one out and replace with another lowerhalf bucket and turn the frozen one upside down out in the sun to thaw. soon as it thaws loose from the bucket, you just lift it off the block of ice and your ready to go again.
Not much of a problem this year tho...it's actually warmed up over night and is raining again... :-(

SR Patch,
That's a great idea, I'll definitely be trying that! Now it just has to freeze here in Ohio! Crazy weather!

I have used one of the blue pans from Wal-Mart for 5 years with no problems. I purchased the bucket this year but it hasn't been that cold so far this year.

I've had the plastic ones, they all got tore up.
Next ones will be the stainless steel ones. The best price I've seen on stainless is here
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/ ... 17&R=55517 The element is removable so you can use the dish itself year round.
