I am noticing that there are a majority of guys that keep more than one dog in a kennel. I am not wondering if it works cuz if it didnt that would be lol. I am wondering how u make sure each dog gets enough food. or do u just put them on self feeders?? Thanks

I have my dogs in the house (5 today) and they get fed with supervision in the kitchen. Otherwise stealing and fighting go on. Carolyn

I have 4 females in one kennel and 2 males in the other. I don't have any problems with them eating they all go to their bowls and eat. I have one female that was getting more than her share and now I just take a leash out with me and tie her to the fence for 15 minutes or so.

i have four pens all on dirt with three dogs to each kennel. i do have
problems with dogs fighting at times to get more than there share of
feed. i made up several chains about 2' long with clips on both sides
so i can hook up the rowdy ones. out of the four pens i have three
hounds that like to share others feed. i don't think thats to bad out of
twelve dogs. by the way the pens are chainlink all 6'x10'.

I believe in keeping a full bowl of food in the kennel at all times. A dog will eat when it’s hungry. If you starve one you run the risk of having it over eat...then the dog packs on weight. I have three dogs in each kennel and one that was very aggressive until I started this approach. Now they all just eat when they want to. My dogs are always nice and lean and always have food. That’s a concept that people have a hard time understanding, but it works! I have taken in overweight dogs and within a few weeks they are in nice shape because they are no longer binge eating.

sanfordssj, sure would be nice to do this, you could just use self feeders.
the hounds that i have would look like basketballs with legs. i have tried
this, but only get to run on the weekend so they don't get much excercise.
there for they are feed once a day from 1/2lb to a pound. it suits them
better.

Good point. My dogs run the yard daily and do get a chance to stretch their legs.

Like to hand feed all hounds, same time of day. Like hounds a litttle hungry when going hunting, not good, a hound with food in his belly before hunting. Food around draws birds, mice/rats and molds, not good.
Hounds should be hungry for food and rabbits...

I dont have any problem at feeding time, if I stay and watch them eat, it only takes them a few minutes to finish.

ITS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT FEEDING DOGS THE SAME AMOUNTS EACH
DAY KEEPS THEM IN WHAT I CALL FEEDING SHAPE, THERES NO LACK OF
FOOD OR A ABUNDANCE OF FOOD. THEY SEEM TO STAY IN GOOD BODY
SHAPE. I HAVE A EXAMPLE OF WHAT I'M SAYING.
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I TRADED A YOUNG HOUND FOR WHAT WAS
TO BE A LITTLE OLDER EXPERIENCED HOUND. THATS ANOTHER STORY. ONE
EVENING A HOUNDS MEN CALLS AND SAY'S HE HAS A HOUND THAT I HAD
SUPPOSEDLY RAISED. WE TALKED AND DECIDED I NEEDED HER WORSE
THAN HE DID AND I BOUGHT HER BACK. WHEN I WENT TO PICK HER UP
I WAS AMAZED SHE LOOKED LIKE A MASS OF HAIR WITH LEGS AND EARS.
I TOLD THE GUY THAY SHE WAS WAY TO BIG AND FOUND SHE HAD BEEN
ON SELF FEEDERS EVERY SINCE SHE LEFT MY KENNEL. THREE MONTHS
LATER AFTER A EXCESSIVE DIET I TOOK HER HUNTING WITH THE SAME
GUY AND HE JUST COULDN'T BELIEVE THE CHANGE IN HER LOOKS AND HER
RUNNING. SOME HOUNDS ONLY NEED A HAND FULL OF FEED TO BE MAINTAINED.
