Louis Page Apron Fencing

Post by Honey Pot Hounds »

Anybody have any experience with this product? I want to use it for turning out Beagles and pups to run, not chase rabbits, but just run...as can't train them all to the invisible fencing, not until they are 5 months anyway. And that doesn't help young pups or visiting hounds....want somewhere they can run more than 12' long kennels allow.
Thanks!
Cindy

Apron Fence
Galvanized Before Weaving
17 gauge, 1-1/2" x 150' x 60" (48" vertical)
SKU: HXGBBG60

Heavy 17 gauge galvanized before weaving (GBW) apron fence. 1-1/2" hexagonal netting mesh. 60" high x 150' long roll.

60" overall height makes a 48" high fence with 12" apron when installed.

This galvanized before weaving (GBW) apron fence is the ideal fence for beagle training pens and other enclosures. Apron fence can also be used as a lower cost alternative to galvanized after weaving (GAW) for game bird pens. The heavy 17 gauge galvanized wire is over twice as heavy as normal 20 gauge chicken wire. Unique, hinged 12" apron prevents animals from burrowing under the fence. Keeps raccoons, foxes and other predators out. The apron can be turned in either direction to make a pen or form an outside barrier. Apron fence is easy to install since there is no need to dig a trench. Just bend the fabric along the line wire which runs the length of the roll, 12" up from the bottom. The apron lays on top of the ground and vegetation grows up through the mesh for a neat appearance. For additional height in deep snow areas, use 36" rolls.

Price breaks: 1 to 5 rolls, 6 to 26 rolls, 27 or more rolls.

Is this fencing safe for leaving dogs turned out for a couple hours if you are inside the house doing other things (like surfing The American beagler ;) )

Byrne Fence Company has the exact same fence. They were much cheaper with freight than Page. Larger pups and adults can and will eat through it if they want out bad enough. I have patched a couple of places in the last two years. All in all I'm very pleased with mine though. If you have any hard heads just be sure they have company with them and eating out shouldn't be a problem.

I saved myself a lot of headaches and a bunch of money when I built mine. We have a state game farm not far from us where they raise wild ringnecks each year to stock before and during hunting season. These guys do this all the time. So I watched how they did it. Of course their fences are high (8 or 10 ft.) with netting over the top so the birds can fly but not escape. Anthow. I used the 7' green posts and pounded them in with a two handled post driver you can get a tractor supply.Pounded them in about 1½ ' about 12' apart. Then (the most important part) for lasting strengh you stretch a single strand of either no.9 wire or (I used) that high tensil wire along the very top of the posts making sure to get it good and tight and anchoring it at each post. This is actually the foundation of your fence. Once that was done, I "hung" 48" chicken wire from the single heavy wire fastening it with small hog rings (also at tractor sply.) and attaching it at every post with some kind of non rust wire.OK, Now you have approx. a 6" to 12 " opening (depending on the lay of the land) at the bottom. Then I got 2' vynal (sp?) coated chicken wire and attached it to the bottom of the 4' chicken wire (w/ hog rings) and that took me to the ground with a foot or more to bend in and use for the apron. I recomend vynal coated for this part as being in contact with the ground, it will last for many years without rusting through. You may have to steak it down till the vegetation grows into it and holds it firmly in the ground. This has made me a good strong pen for several yrs. so far with no sagging and very few repairs through some of the toughest winter conditions with heavy wet snow just hanging on the fence. As has been mentioned above, I have had one bone head that actually chewed his way out one time but I patched it up and always give him some company in there now. I know this may sound hard, and at first it kinda is. But after you get going it moves right along and gets easier as you move along. Hope this is of some help. Palerydr

Glad to be of some help. I forgot to mention that it's a good idea to build it so your posts are on the outside of your fence so your hounds (or rabbits) don't have them to get a toe hold on to try to climb out. Also, at each corner of your pen you will need an angled post for bracing going each direction so your corners don't pull in from pressure. Palerydr

I've been kicking this around for about two years now but can't seem to get the time (or desire) to get out there and clean up 10 acres of fence rows. I have checked around at TSC, Rural King, local co-op, Louis Page and Byrne fence. I found that Byrne fence had the best prices including shipping any where. He also caries serval guages of fence and vinyl coated as well. Haven't bought any yet but Byrne fence was the best price I have found bar none for a couple years now. If I could just get someone to volunteer thier bulldozer to clear out my fence rows I'd get this done.
