Water doesn't seem to get in them but if it did I would put a small lean-to roof above the entrance. I believe that is what you are asking. The base under the half barrel is treated lumber.

The kennel area of my kennels are 5 by 10, but I also have 3/4 acre fenced in area and hot wire top and bottom they get there fair share of exercise in it. I also have a 20 by 20 kennel attached to it with water, dog houses and feeder if I want to leave them in it for a couple days.
