PIctures of my new above ground kennel

Post by So.Dak. »

Well, after looking at all the pics on here about above ground kennels, I decided to give it a try. I'm still not done. I have the dog house to finish and then to paint it. I was happy with the way it turned out. I'm not much of a carpenter. It's a true 4' x 12' kennel. It's 30" from the ground to the floor and then 2.5' from the floor to the roof eve.

I went to the local lumber yard's "cull" pile of lumber. I wasn't too picky. I tried to got all the green treated lumber I could but had to settle for a lot of regular pine. I will have to paint for sure.

I used 4X4's for the legs. I ripped a bunch of green treated 2x4's and 2x6's for the floor. I spaced the slats on the floor 3/4" apart. I used 7/16 osb (also cull @ $3.50 a piece! and it was in great shape) for the roof and ends. I put a pitch on the roof for rain to run off.

I went to the local tractor supply store to find the fencing wire for the sides. I couldn't believe how thin and that 2x3" rabbit fencing stuff was. They wanted like $40.00 for enough to do the kennel. I went outside of the store where they have their cattle and horse panels. I found the perfect stuff. It was 5' for 12' horse heavy horse panel for $39.99. Kennel is 2.5' from floor to eve the 5' fit perfect, just cut it in half. Had to use bolt cutters to do it. It's nice and heavy stuff.

Where you see my tools sitting is where the dog house will go. It will be 4' by 2' and 20' high down to 18" for a sloped roof. I plan on insulating it as well.

For some reason my pictures are cut in half. Can't figure out what I"m doing.

Looking very good. See you used some of my idea's = Cool

pm me and I'll get the rest of the pics up for you if you would like. I'll give you my e-mail address.

I like that kennel Wire you got. Some heavy duty wire. You be surprised what dogs can do to that thinner wire. That kind is going to hold up well.

Nice and big too. Most people make them very small. Even though they are in doggy jail no matter what its still nice for it to be big for them.
