New construction on a running pen, question on fence

Im preparing to enclose about 3 acres and wanted to know what type of fencing do most of everyone uses and where to get it. I will be postinpics later.

I take it no one wants to speak about what type of fencing they use on their running pens

I used Red Brand 1.5x 17 ga. Appron fence.It is 60" tall which includes a 12" appron. Comes in 150' rolls. Just finished ptting up my 5 acre pen this weekend.

I use Red Brand 5 foot apron fence. Tractor Supply use to carry it. I can get it special order for a better price from our local Farmers Co-Op. It is important to use a high tensil wire at the top and bottom. Some use one in the middle. I have a problem with deer hitting mine. It looks like a car has run into it in places. Without the high tensil wire it would be a mess by now. I fasten everything together with pig rings, available at farm stores also. I use heavy treated wood 8 inch or bigger posts at corners and turns etc. and metal post about 12 feet apart. The wire is not made to strech like farm fence. You just have to pull it as tight as you can and be satisfied with it which is hard for me. I want everything perfect but decided I have to accept the fact that it won't stretch. I have 12 acres fenced and wish I had done more at the time. They can roll pretty good in the 12 acres. I have all wild cottontails and plenty of them in mine. I don't like too many rabbits though. The dogs will catch some when I start running again. I have had it shut down to let them raise this Spring and Summer. My pen is really thick and rough with lots of briars. I don't play with puppies on tame rabbits. I wait until they are ready to do business and put them with the cottontails.

I'm also in the process of enclosing 3 acres.I'm leaning toward the Byrne Fencing Company.I like the look of their Duraflex 18HD apron fence.I need to make a decision this week so I'm also interested in what guys are using.

Byrne fence co has the best wire i just got through buliding a 3 acre pen i looked at a lot of different wire and wound up going with 17 gauge durfelx from byrne. I am glad i waited and went with it . call brad and tell him how much you need and he will give you a price shipping and all.i know it keeps going up ..
What part of ga are you in iam in south ga.

Built mine the same way. I added the middle wire and a hot wire around the top.

I just purchased the Duraflex from the Byrne Fence Company. It was the best fence I could find for the money. They were also great to work with. Swamper was 100% correct.

I have a hot wire on top of my fence also. The deer keep tearing it down. They jump in and out and give my fence a hard time. I killed 4 armadillos out of it last year. They will get in somehow and can't get out or don't want out.

i bought wire from TSC it was $48 a roll but i cant remember how long it was but CO-OP had the same stuff and it was $100 a roll...i have 1 foot on the ground and 3 foot high...they have a strait wire running across every foot and i just bent it down on the ground and havent had any problem at all out of it

The use of high tensile wire is very important, and when you staple it to a post, it's got to have 1/2" or so clearance, so it'll slide easily in the staple. I've found the longer stretches you can do (maybe 100' between where you have to fasten the wire to a corner post the better. If a tree falls on a long stretch, you cut the tree off, and the fence will bounce back to it's original height with no repairs necessary. If you drive the staple in to the post, the wire wears at that point and will break. I like using the 5' wire full height and add a 1' skirt at the bottom (espescially if you can find the vinyl coated wire for the skirt). Terry McBride

Thanks for all the input guys, Im in process of stringin my high tensile wire and awatin the arrival of my enclosure wire from the good people of Eiisenhut dog supplies, Thanks Chip for the info and supplies. If I can figure out how to post pics they will be here soon.

Put your bottom wire right at the ground, it will hold your apron down and help keep anything from sliding in under your fence...
