Shelter Logic Kennels?

Post by Beagled1 »

I'm looking for a new kennel run ... plan on keeping 2-3 adults in there. This one seems to be the most well constructed to me, but what do I know, lol. I was wondering if anyone has this kennel & if so, what size do you use? Thanks! http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0052579660286a.shtml

I have 3 hounds in a 10WX10LX6H Dans Fence kennel. From the gate 4ft W accross to the other side is covered w/ 6" deck boards atop screwed in 4X4's. the two plastic barrel doghouses fastened together and the water bucket and feed pan sit atop this deck. The other 6'X10" is 53 gravel & clay, keeps their feet tight and nails wore down. Four hounds have plenty room, they love to lay in sun winter/summer on deck... ;)

You can get the same kennel at Tractor Supply for less money. If you don't have a TSE store near you then just look them up online and you can order that way also. Their kennels are really well constructed and will last a long time. JMO

Beagled1, Im pouring a 13x20 concrete pad tomorrow to put a 10x10 with double doors and devider on. I went to a local chainlink fence installer and had it coustom made. It is way more heavy duty than the one's you can get from the tractor store or lowes. I paid 350.00 for it and it will last a lifetime. Im going to put a tarp on it until I get the wife over the concrete bill. But this summer I plan to put one of those aluminum 12x20 car ports over the whole thing and bolt it to the concrete. I figure if I need the room I can add another 3 panels and have three 5x10 runs.

Good luck,
Bill

If using a tarp for a cover make sure water won't collect on it. Either by elevating the center or by putting holes in it to allow the water to come though. If you don't and water collects in the center of the tarp it will bend your kennel frame. A tarp can hold a large amount of water and the weight adds up quicker than you think.

I have 5 x 10 runs and I really like them. You can house 1 big dog per run without any problems and up to three beagles but I prefer to only house two beagles per run. I didn't have a place level enough for concrete so I used treated lumber. This is the second kennel that I have built this way and I have had good luck with both.

I got them from yourfencestore.com I've had these for about five years and they work really well. The only thing different I did was instead of the plastic ties to hold the screens I used nylon rope. The ties work great for a while but over time they break.
