Dog chewing heck out of kennel.
I have above ground kennels, built out of wood, with wood boxes. One of my dogs has chewed through a 2X4 and about 8 inches of plywood at the opening into his box. He chews around the screws and everything. What was at one time a 12"X16" hole is now a 16"X16" and he's still working it over. Any suggestions on how to either fix it to deter him, or suggestions of any type. I'm going to go out this weekend and put in a new 2X4, but the way he works things over, it won't take him long to chew right through that also. My other dog chews a little, but nothing like this.

That's a good one, I've tried it, he's one of those dogs that can chew up a toy, nylabone or something of that nature in less than an hour. In writing this post, I did get an idea though, maybe I could go down to the hedgerow and cut off a good piece of tree about 2 or three inches in diameter and throw it in there.

You don't really want him chewin' wood. The splinters are not good for the dog. Give 'em a big ol hambone or something. Get ya some aluminum flashing or channeling and put it around the opening.

Also you can go with Seneca kennel boxes, they are made of aluminum, with a aluminum interior skin, insulated. Standard sizes are 24 x 24 x 33 and 24 x 24 x 39. Both have lift off lids for clean out. Pricing $100.00 for 33" and $110.00 for 39". Can be seen in American Beagler.

ive got the same problem with a pup. dang thing wont stop chewing. i had an idea the other day. i think im going to take some pvc pipe and cut a piece of it of length wise and then stick it around the outside of the opening and screw it down. its hard to explain on here and i dont know if it will work but it seems like a good idea when i think about it lol.....keith

When I had opening like you have, I made a frame out of wood to cover the opening then layed heavy gage vinyl coated wire over it both inside and out and back away from the opening about four inches and secured with stapes. That cured even tne most stanch of chewers.I now use aluminun doors of my own making and the dogs I have don't chew them.I covered all wood on the pens I kept chewers in with the heavy wire. They worked on the wire but to no avail.Sometimes the dog food they are on .gives them more energy than they know what to do with.

Linning opening with tin will work or like I have, is a 1/8" thin plastic I think they call it hog board in some areas of the world. I've lined the whole inside boxes and outside walls with it and put an aluminum spring loaded door in the entry way works great! Easy to clean and dogs wont tarnish it... I bought it a few years back it came in a 4 x 100 ft roll. Very hard stuff and has been in my kennel for 2 years and no problems.. You can cut it with a utility knife or a sharpe pair of sissors. Sorry can't remeber were I got it from but enough research you'll find it. Dave

I went last Sunday and got my hound one of those half shin bones from a cow with the knuckle on the end, it was about 8" long, it's gone, he chewed up the last little bit of it yesterday. Last night I went and got the 16" variety, if this one doesn't last a few weeks, I'm going to have to get some wire, and wire everything he could possibly chew on.
